When you are out feeding bunnies or rescuing, you may encounter domestically dumped ducks. Please feed properly if you do

Feeding wild ducks isn’t usually a good idea. Even when the food is healthy, overfeeding tends to make ducks dependent and can cause them to overpopulate bodies of water. This leads to the overgrowth of algae and the mass death of fish and can sometimes cause ducks and geese to become aggressive toward humans.
However, if you will feed ducks anyway, please feed them healthy foods. Bread causes severe gas, diarrhea, liver disease, and bone deformities. Make sure you don’t accidentally cause more harm than good! 🦆

People who dump rabbits, surrender breeder rabbits and expect rescues and shelters to take care of their trash, have no concept of the challenges we all face. So for our part as a small rescue, we give back as much as we can. These were 25 sets of bunny stuffies and DIY toys we donated for each adopted shelter bunny Nevada SPCA Life-Saving Shelter. We also picked up behavioral foster bunny Jet, for her second foster stay with us.

Amendment to Our Recent Post on RHD Vaccination Recommendations 🐰💉

We’d like to provide clarification on our recent post regarding the US Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease (RHD) vaccine by Medgene.

In our original post, we mentioned that Medgene updated the label to recommend vaccination every 6 months. This statement is not entirely accurate and has caused some confusion among veterinarians and rabbit owners. Here's what you need to know:
- Medgene’s label: The current label does not require a booster every 6 months. Instead, the label states that the vaccine has been shown to be effective for at least 6 months based on data from a duration of immunity (DOI) study.
- Booster schedule: Veterinarians are encouraged to use both Medgene's efficacy data and additional data, such as the serology response study conducted by Colorado State University, to make informed decisions about when to booster the vaccine. This study suggests that immunity lasts beyond 6 months, with sufficient levels seen up to a year post-vaccination.
- Clarification on label: There has not been an official label change on the vaccine. The label does not currently specify when booster vaccinations must occur after the initial series (two vaccines, 21 days apart), allowing veterinarians to use their discretion.

We sincerely apologize for any confusion caused and recommend rabbit owners consult with their veterinarians to determine the most appropriate vaccination schedule for their pets. 🐇

One of our rescue programs is collecting stuffies as comfort items. Every shelter bunny for our rescue partnership receives one. Around the country we also send bunny stuffies to friends, other rescues’ fosters, etc. We accept donated stuffies, sale stuffies after Easter and we buy up as many annually as we can afford. The bunny in the photos is Nami who lives in a loving bunny home in VA. I could not resist mailing this big headed stuffy to a matching & adorable boy. It’s sad that postage is so high to mail anything, but well worth the joy provided

It seems that the holiday toy donation bug has hit me already. Every year we donate DIY enrichment toys to an out-of-state rescue/sanctuary recipient & our local shelter for the bunnies & piggies. It’s important to our mission to be a rescue that gives to other efforts.

Sherwood does a lot to help the bunny community beyond just selling expensive supplies (compared to certain other vendors). They support rescues and provide small pet parents with educational support

“I don’t want to take the bunny to a shelter” consider this:
Yeah, while we do not recommend sending animals to The Animal Foundation, not every shelter is a death sentence. However, almost every single small rescue & shelter is beyond overwhelmed. Please foster until you can find a home for a lost or abandoned animal.

Stitch also received some of the magical treat from @ Copper & Co:) Stitch wants everyone to know he is fine today after his neuter, yesterday. These crunchies are the first he’s ever had. When you get dumped your old human doesn’t care enough about you so you don’t get the best things in life. Thank goodness for Copper being so thoughtful to think of his desert friends.
