This session was all verbal recall with no stim or help from the leash.
Look at his head snap and instant recall even when there are people cutting stuff and jack hammering.
This wasnβt taught with food.
Many people think and teach to always start with food and positive reinforcement and then add aversives later to βcorrectβ the dog for blowing you off.
There is a much better way, especially for something as important as recall.
I have video of every dog that goes thru my program getting a solid recall in DAYS.
Some of these dogs are reactive, some are very aggressive.

After 4 weeks Loki finally played chase and catch at the park!
He would play at home for around a minute but he would NEVER play out in public.
I tried many times, but he just preferred to people watch and sniff.
Itβs important to pay attention to the dog and pick up on little hints they give us.
Today I noticed he was feeling playful so I broke out the Little green ball and he was all in!
Making full throws and he was running to get it and bring it back.
Notice how his tail is high and how happy he is.
Itβs so good for dogs to run and play and have purpose.
Some dogs play naturally, others take some work and skill to bring it out.
Loki has become somebody.

Reactive dog before and after.
He used to go nuts anytime he would a new person or dog, mailman, landscaper, and he would go really crazy when he saw kids especially on bikes.
The first clip is the first day I got him and the second clip is his last day with me and the owner is walking him on the flexi with screaming kids around and people driving up and talking to us.
He has changed so much!
His view of the world is different and he has more confidence.
On top of all that his owners now have real control of him so he can be free and live his best life.

Does your dog pull you on walks?
One of my favorite things to help people with is a nice loose leash walk were the dog is happy and you can enjoy walking together even around other people or dogs.
This doesnβt require treats or constant stimulation from the e collar.
One of the most important parts of this is that the dog sees a purpose for all this.
Simply walking back and forth in the driveway or in a parking lot will not translate to having the proper control in a real environment.
The dog must also have a very clear signal when its time to stay with us and when they are free.
Freedom is super important for a healthy and stable dog.
Astro came to me reactive, barking and lunging anytime there was a strange person or dog.
He especially went crazy for bicycles.
His confidence has grown and he has become somebody.
He knows how to act and he is happy to do so. π

We need a specific game and that game must have an objective and rules and penalties for breaking rules.

While short edits are fun I think itβs important for trainers to show longer unedited footage of their training to showcase what the dogs they train are capable of and make sure itβs not just the βgood shotsβ.
This was a small part of an 1.5 hrs at the park doing many other things as well.
All this dog wants is to play with his ball so its very hard for him to hold positions when the ball is thrown.
This level of control can be generalized to any situation where he may be very excited.

DOGS STARING OR FIXATING ON DOGS OR PEOPLE!
If your dog struggles with reactivity this is for you.
For those that have worked with a trainer or watched videos online about βfixing reactivityβ, it is very common to find people saying to βnever let the dog stare or fixate at the triggerβ.
A popular technique is to lure the dog away with food and make them give you eye contact or tap the e collar anytime the dog is looking at a trigger.
I have seen this online and in person.
This is a very bad idea.
I wanna pause for a moment and say that whatever program you go thru, if you have to tap the dog constantly with the e collar when you are out, the training is not effective.
Anyway back to staring.
As you can see in this video, Astro stares, watches, and even heads toward the other dogs.
I simply recall him verbally. (No stim)
Itβs important for the behavior modification process that we let the dogs see the world and observe their environment.
Trying to make a dog focus on you and ignore the trigger can actually make things WORSE.
Reactivity can be a complicated problem and it should be resolved by someone who shows a good amount of proof of having solved it in many dogs.
I stand by my work and my clients will tell you I check in weeks and months after dogs go thru my program and if they need extra help im there.
