Friday advice for my doodle or long hair dog breed owners 😍
✅ 1. Commit to Brushing Every 1–2 Days.
• Use a slicker brush to get through the top layer, then follow with a metal comb all the way to the skin.
• If the comb doesn’t glide easily through, tangles are already forming.
✅ 2. Schedule Professional Grooming Every 4–6 Weeks—No Exceptions.
• Waiting 8–12 weeks between grooms guarantees mats in most doodles, especially if the coat is kept longer.
• Even if you want a fluffy look, you still need frequent maintenance grooms (bath, blow dry, feet/face/sanitary trim).
✅ 3. Keep Them Dry and Clean.
• Wet coats mat faster—after swimming, rain, or baths, dry and brush thoroughly.
• Never let your doodle air-dry without brushing out the damp coat.
✅ 4. Understand the Trade-Off Between Coat Length and Workload.
• Longer coat = more daily brushing.
• If you don’t have time to comb daily, ask for a shorter “puppy cut” or “teddy bear cut.”
✅ 5. Learn Where Mats Start.
• Common problem areas: behind the ears, collar area, armpits, tail base, and between the toes.
• Check these spots every few days and gently separate any tangles.
✅ 6. Avoid Overbathing Without Brushing and Drying.
• Bathing a matted doodle makes mats tighter.
• Always brush out thoroughly before a bath.
✅ 7. Use Detangling Spray.
• A light spritz before brushing helps ease tangles and makes grooming more comfortable.
✅ 8. Keep Communication Open With Your Groomer.
• Ask your groomer to show you brushing techniques.
• Be honest about your at-home routine—so they can help you set realistic expectations about coat length. Hair dogs
