Meet Cheeky: 😻
Cheeky came under our rescue care roughly a month ago when he quite unintentionally meandered into a trap a colleague of ours had set for sickly kittens at a location with numerous outdoor cats.
Cheeky didn’t know it, of course , but in that instant his life would drastically change.
Previously existing outdoors at a high risk location where numerous cats are recently unexplainably disappearing, it’s clearly not safe for Cheeky to be returned to the location.
He is acclimating gradually to indoor life and curently crated to help him adjust to close and frequent human interaction / contact.
Cheeky is fully vetted (vaccinated , neutered and microchipped).
He has combo tested positive for FIV. Another reason he’s not a good candidate to be released outdoors.
As anyone who knows much about FIV will tell you, these cats do not fare well outdoors due to their immune compromised status. They are highly susceptible to infections , viruses and diseases carried by fleas , ticks and mosquitoes.
Their quality and longevity of life increases greatly when they have an indoor life.
Although FIV is not zoonotic ( meaning other species cannot “ catch it “ … dogs , humans etc. ) other felines are at risk if the cats carrying the virus remain outdoors where in spite of being spayed and neutered many cats still fight for territory and food supplies.
FIV is only transmitted through deep bite wounds ( generally inflicted during fights between cats ).
Side note : Due to the fact there’s so much misinformation circulating about FIV+ felines we have attached some informative links in the comments. See attached links in comments for additional educational information about FIV.
Therefore we reduce the potential risk and exposure for other community ( outdoor cats ) when we provide FIV+ cats with an indoor home and they are usually VERY friendly and healthy indoor cats. They’ve no reason to quarrel with other felines when they have a sa

Albert
Post Op Day 2 :
Albert is on the rd to recovery after having a very large cyst removed from his groin area yesterday.
For those of you who don’t know the story … Please see our previous posts about sweet Albert.
He was rescued from a location we worked with volunteer assistance , late last year.
Albert holds a HUGE place in my heart ❤️ and he is a reminder to me … that sometimes , in rescue , there are circumstances we have to make exceptions for … even when we are “ full “and “ intake is closed !
Last year when I worked the location he was at .. I was tired , I was stretched financially and mentally and my home was full and adoptions were slow … and yet with the help of others we saved alotta lives !!! (40+ cats and kittens came from the location and were safely placed under foster care and adopted or transferred out to other reputable rescues and some outdoor cats were relocated to wonderful barn home placements.
It Takes A Community Networking together to effectively make BIG changes !!!
