“The bond with a true dog is as lasting as the ties of this earth will ever be”

There is no greater joy than the joy my dogs bring me. Each day whether I’m gone for five minutes or five hours, they are just as excited to see me. Dogs are loyal and forgiving In ways that people do not understand. Aside from spending time with the Lord, and my partner in life Dakota. The joy that I get from training my dogs and building a bond that’s unshakable could never be put into words. Here at SOBSD our goal is to not only train your dog, but to equip you to train yourself. Most trainers will take your dog and train them, but how many trainers take you and show you how to reinforce behaviors? There is no better way to spend time with your dog than to bond with them by teaching them something new. Not only do we train your canine, we take the time to show you as the owner how and what we teach your canine and teach you as well. So if your looking for a better and brighter canine SOBSD is the best choice for you!! Please contact us by message, email, or phone.

SOBSD PRESENTS:
Stages of Learning For Dogs

1. Acquisition: In this stage, your dog learns by prompting, shaping, or reinforcement. Such as using a food lure or a toy to get your canine to perform a behavior. Once your canine learns that a new behavior can be rewarding, the more often your canine is prompted to give you correct behaviors. This stage is designed to get your canine excited about training and learning.

2. Automation: In this stage, your canine learns to automatically give a behavior without prompting. During this stage we step away from using food lures and use more “good boys” and praise rewards.

3. Generalization: In the generalization stage of learning, your canine learns that even if a different person gives a cue or command , they should listen. They should still be just as precise regardless of where they are, or who is giving a command.

4. Maintenance: The final stage of learning, your canine should be able to comply with any given cue or command that has been taught. The amount of time that it takes your canine to reach this stage of learning will vary depending on your canine. But most of all you as a trainer. There is a key in training, and it is called repetition and commitment!

Our whole purpose here at SOBS is to train and educate people about dogs. The purpose of training is so you build a strong and lasting relationship with your canine. Not to have a robot or a trophy to show people. Training builds a bond that is inseparable between pet and owner.

Hi guys, my name is Destiny. All my life I have had a love for animals. All animals! Dogs and horses in particular. As a kid all that we want is a companion, a best friend. Someone to play, and run through the woods with. I believe that is every kids idea of a dog. Going on these big adventures only stopping to share ice cream or a lollipop. But as kids most of us never think about the training aspect of our dogs. Things such as sit, stay, and down. Most of us get dogs just to have and never take the time to make them the perfect companion. We are quick to get mad at them when they won’t walk on a leash or bark too much. When they dig up the flower beds or chew our favorite socks up. We never stop to think about what causes these behaviors or what to do to stop them. Instead, we put them in a crate, pen outside, or hook them to a chain. Over the last eight months I’ve had the opportunity of working with Dakota and learning about dogs and animals in general. He has taught me the importance of training and good obedience in dogs. Because of him and my love for animals I’ve pursued a career working with animals by going to school to be a veterinary technician. Our passion for dogs and love for training has pushed me into wanting to do it all the time! If you would like to excel your dogs behavior and would like the perfect companion please contact me through messenger or email.

Hi, My name is Dakota Selby and I am the lead dog trainer here at Selby's Obedience and Behavior School for Dogs. Training is my passion and since I was a teenager has been a love of mine. I started training when I was 16 years old by training a lab named Zeek to bird hunt. As I got older I decided to do it not just as a hobby but to really work at becoming a trainer. So for three years I worked with dogs and trained everyday. Most of my training was centered around obedience, agility, and behavior modification. I had the privilege to work with a program that took dogs from animal shelters that were going to be put down and making them into loving companions. In three years I was able to train over 30 dogs and get these dogs adopted. All of the dogs that I trained were certified in the AKC's Canine Good Citizen. Here at SOBSD my focus is to use positive reinforcement to train any dog no matter age or health obedience. For those who have dogs that have behavior issues such as aggression, anxiety, or any other behavior issues. We are here for you! For those who want to get there dogs into agility competitions we have the ability to get your dog started. For consultations or scheduling contact me by email, direct message me, or call.
