September is Disaster Preparedness Month. Here are some ways to keep your fur babies safe.

A significant number of families have pets and they need to be ready for a disaster too. Below are items to have prepared to go in your pet emergency kit. Remember to have enough supplies for each of your pets. Most importantly each cat or dog needs their own crate or various kennel.

Pet Preparedness Kit
*Dog or cat food, dry or canned-one to two-week supply. Can opener, spoon, dish.
Water—one to two-week supply (including water purification tablets). Collapsible bowls that are easy to store.

*Cleaning supplies to clean crate.

*Vaccination records/medical history/picture of your pet & any medical condition(s) (Store in waterproof container).

*Medication, list each pet separately including dosage/frequency; including flea, tick, and heartworm preventatives.

*Name of your veterinarian, address, and phone number. Include a release form authorizing medical treatment for your pet. Include any pet insurance information, policy number, and contact information (store it in a waterproof container).

*Pet Information, including copies of registration information, adoption papers, proof of purchase, microchip, tattoo, or other identification information (stored in a waterproof container).

*List of emergency contacts (store in a waterproof container).

*Thermal blanket—should be reusable, wind and waterproof. Needs to retain 90% of body heat.

*Emergency light sticks with lanyards.

*Collar & leash.

*Sanitation/poop bags, and cat litter, to maintain sanitation in a temporary shelter area.

*Toys—for entertainment during a time of great stress.

National Spoil Your Dog Day is on Saturday, August 10, 2024.

August 8th is International Cat Day, and it’s not hard to see why our little feline friends hold such a special place in our affections.

Funny cat videos, memes, and cute pictures of cats are some of the most viewed content online, which just confirms our obsession with furry things. While research shows that watching funny cat videos online can boost a person’s energy and create positive emotions, according to the experts owning a cat can also be good for your heart. Petting a cat is said to reduce stress levels.

If you ask me I’d say that cats have more than earned their extra treats and cuddles this International Cat Day, so go on, show your appreciation to that kitty in your life or buy that extra pack of cat food at the shops to donate to your local rescue center as a little thanks to our four-legged pals!
