This is how I start teaching my dog to rollover! ✨ Bandit is a past puppy and while he’s staying at my house for a few days I’m teaching him a new trick, this is his first exposure to this and he did really well. To start training they need to know the “sit” and “lay down” commands. From there use a treat in one hand and the other to signal a circular motion and say the command “rollover”. During this first session I use my hand to gently give guidance into a rollover and then praise him by saying “good rollover!” And give the treat. I then repeat that process several times and I can see it’s starting to click more to him of what I want when I say that command. By the end I only use very light pressure and he rolls easily and gets his treat and I end on a good note. Training should be fun for dogs and something they look forward to! You can use their favorite treats or even their food at meal times can be fed during training sessions in this way. Try this with your dog and note where they start and see if you can make just a baby step each day until they fully understand the command and can do it by themselves! Happy training!!
