This iconic photo was taken in June 1964, as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was being escorted back to jail after testifying before the grand jury in St. Augustine, Florida. A police dog was intentionally placed in the car with him, likely as an attempt to intimidate him. However, instead of showing fear, Dr. King and the dog seemed to form an unexpected bond and connection. Today, we remember and celebrate the remarkable legacy of love, peace, and unity that Dr. King left for future generations.
