Minis drinking
🐴🥵It’s been ridiculously hot the last few days🥵🐴
The mini horses have been drinking their water trough dry a few times a day in this heat and they practically tackle me in the morning when I come over with the hose.
🚌Here is today’s math problem for our grammar school homeschool kiddos :
“Each horse can drink about 10 gallons of water per day (or more on a hot day like today). If Farmer Erin has 43 rescued horses, how many gallons of water does she need to fill the water troughs up to every day so that their thirsty needs are met?” 🧐🤔

Really missing this kiddo today. Things just aren’t the same without her ❤️
Hey all! I’m Lynn and I help Erin with some of our posts/emails/and Farm Camp days!
On this particular day the Farm Camp kiddos were filling bowls for Erin to feed the Big Pigs! Listen to how demanding they are! It’s one of the things I love most on farm days - listening to the animals use their voices!
And don’t worry, they were happily fed shortly after this, but since they get breakfast before Open Farm days start I know many of you have never gotten to hear it before and it’s too cool to miss out on!

Bobbing for apples
🌟🐷 Bobbing for Apples🐷🌟
You can ask anyone & they would agree that my all time favorite Farm Camp activity is “Bobbing for Apples”.
After the kids fill up a few buckets of fresh organic apples from our apple trees, we call the big pigs out from the barn where they are relaxing the afternoon away sitting under the fans. We coax them out with the promise of juicy delicious healthy treats!
Not only is this fun for the kids, but they are learning compassion & respect for animals traditionally not seen as sentient living things but instead only viewed as food or as a commodity.
Its great for the pigs too! Pigs are extremely emotional and intelligent. Giving them fun activities, mental stimulation & exercise is an important part of life living in sanctuary.
Almost every one of these big pigs is a truck jumper. They were on a truck headed to a slaughterhouse, and somehow they escaped and survived. We like to think of it & say, “they took a leap of faith and got a better life.” And surely they did!
The big pigs are one of the best parts of the farm! ❤️

❤️🐴Sweet Roxy🐴❤️
❤️🐴Sweet Roxy has had a rough few days! 🐴❤️
On Friday when we arrived at the ER, she had a respiratory rate of 52.
(The normal respiratory rate for horses is 8 to 16 breaths per minute.)
After being an oxygen for 24 hours, her respiratory rate dropped to 28, and then the following day, down to 24. And today we are so excited that she dropped down to 16.
So they have been able to discontinue the oxygen supplementation today and hopefully we are able to keep her off of it.
She’s had some ups and downs, but for the most part, we are heading in the right direction!
We will continue to share updates on these two sweet souls. If you would like more details, photos & videos, join our Patreon page for behind-the-scenes farm scoop!

❤️🐴Ben Update🐴❤️
“Ben” was abandoned at the farm around 5am Friday morning.
He was in extreme pain. He has all sorts of leg issues that start with poor confirmation. He also has a very arthritic knee. Favoring that knee is what likely caused his left front leg & hoof to founder.
We are doing the best to manage his pain and he has been responding beautifully. His bad hoof is wrapped in a poultice and he’s getting IV pain meds and IV antibiotics.
He’s been at Purdue University Veterinary Hospital for 3 days now and he is responding very well to treatment!
We are monitoring his hoof & hoping that the bone does not get infected.
Despite all this pain he was in, he is such a sweetheart. I think he truly knows that we are doing our best to care for him and make him feel better. He is 100% worth fighting for.
The video will show his xrays and explain some of what is going on with his hoof. We will re-x-ray, his feet in a few days and give him a special trim Thursday.
If you would like to make a donation for Ben and his ongoing medical needs and care, here are some ways that you can help:

Roxy’s Rescue
🚨🐴”Roxy Update🐴🚨
“Roxy” was extremely weak & collapsed during her trip to the emergency vet at Purdue University Veterinary Hospital on Friday.
Her respiratory rate was around 52 breaths per minute, when a normal rate for horses is closer to 10.
An immediate ultrasound showed us a possible mass in her chest. But x-rays confirmed that -thankfully- that it is not the case. She does not have pneumonia or plural effusion, or a mass. There’s a possibility she has asthma, but likely she’s just extremely exhausted and her organs are working overtime to survive.
She was put on oxygen supplementation as well as IV fluids with amino acid proteins to help her muscles and organs recover. The oxygen supplementation brought her respiratory rate down to 24 overnight, which will give her body and her organs some stress relief.
She has a long road ahead, but she’s alive. She’s a fighter and she fought to get herself up and out of the trailer. She continues to fight for her life. So we will continue to fight for her too!!
Every hour she’s with us she gets stronger. Keep sending her prayers and positive energy! ❤️🙌
We are continuing to fundraise to make sure that she gets everything that she needs. We are also preparing for her ongoing care once she [hopefully] leaves the hospital.

🐷🍍Piggies eating Pineapple!! 🍍🐷
🐷🍍SOUND ON! 🍍🐷
Special thanks to our friends at Tradewinds who donated a pallet of pineapples yesterday!! The big pigs are just loving them!! Nothing tastes better than a cool juicy pineapple on a hot 95° day!! Listen to the munching!!! 😍
Each of these “food industry” pigs were saved from slaughter having jumped off or fallen off trucks taking them to the slaughterhouse. Then they were picked up by good samaritans and brought to us.
They “took a leap of faith” & got a better life … and what an incredible life they have now! These incredible animals with extreme intelligence and individual unique personalities deserve more compassion than society gives them. They can easily be our “friends” & not “food” by choosing to keep them off of our plates. It’s so easy to live cruelty free!
I (Erin) am a firm believer that having a rescued pig that you can spoil with watermelons, pineapples, sprinklers & mud baths will bring you more daily joy than artery clogging bacon ever would for breakfast!
So which video was your favorite? Last summers piggies with 🍉watermelons? 🍉🍍Or this video of piggies with pineapple? 🍍Maybe we need a video of pineapples & watermelons!?!? 🍉🍍🐷
