Carolina All-Age & Derby Jamboree

Open All Age Field Trialing East of the Mississippi starts and ends in the Sandhills of North Carolina in the small town of Hoffman. This season was concluded, like it has through history, with the running of the NCFTA Open AA and Derby followed by the North Carolina Quail Championship. We ended like we began, the top dogs and top handlers in the country gathered to run on arguably the best public grounds in the country. With plenty of birds and bird work placements were awarded and Champions named. Now for the off season, time for breaks from the grind and the road, then just to start it all over again with puppies, derbies, months working on the prairies, all to get ready for next season and do it again. Everyone put it on your calendars, Mid October in Hoffman, NC is where All Age Field Trialing begins like it has for the past 95 years. National Pheasant Championship

Eight quail coveys, three pheasant finds (two by one dog), and only two dogs finished their hours. Overcast all day in 50’s with occasional drizzle. Tonight below freezing temps. Tomorrow is third and final day of the Carolina Jamboree with temp range of 30-50 degrees and full sunshine.

Ok folks we down to the short strokes for the handler points and the end of the first Carolina Jamboree! Tomorrow is the start of the National Pheasant Championship and the last trial of the Carolina Jamboree. Going into the last trial here are the standings for Top Handler and Top Dog:

Judd Carlton- 415 pts

Top Dog:

Snapshot Day 1 of International Pheasant Ch. Only three dogs finished and two of them had birdwork. One pheasant find by Woodville’s Yukon Cornelius with Mark McLean on Course 1 and three quail covey finds by Miller’s Heat Advisory with Judd Carlton on Course 6. Rester’s Cajun Spirit also finished his hour but no bird contact.

Big Time at the Jamboree Pig Pickin'!! Great time had by all. By far the most folks I've ever seen on the Hoffman grounds and inside the clubhouse. Thanks to all that attended from North Carolina politicians to local equestrian enthusiasts. It was awesome to see a social event like the ones from days of old. We aren't even 1/2 way through the Jamboree yet, still almost 2 weeks of All Age trials to go!! The points for Top Handler and Top Dog are starting to be collected, wonder who's gonna take the $5000 and trophy!!?

The drawing is done and typed up and 2nd half of the Carolina Jamboree is set!! Once again great support and entries in the All Age game and look a there another 25 dog derby stake!! Right now looks like the international Pheasant will start Thursday after lunch. Don't miss out on pheasants at Hoffman!!

The 2023 Tarheel Championship is complete. Judges have turned in their books and now we must wait. Winners to be announced tonight at the Jamboree Pig Pickin' wonder who it will be?? Lots of bird work,big races and great dogs, judges have their hands full!
While we wait, the start of the 2023 Central Carolina Derby has begun, 25 entries. Can't remember when there was a 25 dog derby here at Hoffman! How about that gallery, and for a derby as well? The Jamboree is in full swing!

Chilly forty-one degrees at breakaway on Course 1. Seventy-two degrees during afternoon running. Dogs made contact with ten coveys throughout the day and two were put up by gallery. Four dogs finished their hours.
