**This animal needs to find a home as soon as possible. We are an open-admission shelter and we see small animals coming into our shelter daily. We need responsible, caring people to step forward and adopt or have 501(c)3 nonprofit animal rescue organizations do shelter transfers. Placements for animals are needed as soon as possible, our open-admission shelter has capacity restraints.**
**We are an open-admission shelter and do not turn animals away even if they are sick. We are in a high-risk area for parvo and any animal that comes into our care could have been exposed to it without our knowledge before arrival. Our full-time veterinarian monitors all of our animals closely, and we will not knowingly adopt or transfer a sick animal. Animals can have underlying issues that we are not aware of.**
**Information - Upon adoption or transfer, all animals are microchipped, and have received age-appropriate vaccines, adult cats are usually tested for FIV and FELV and adult dogs are usually tested for heartworm, etc. Some animals may have already been spayed and neutered. We try to spay and neuter as many as possible, but with the large number of animals being turned in to our shelter right now, we are not able to spay or neuter them all. Under Tennessee TN Code § 44-17-503 all adopters must pay a refundable $25 fee for the unspayed or unneutered animal they adopt. All adopters must sign an agreement that they will get the animal spayed or neutered within 30 days of adoption or within 30 days of reaching sexual maturity. After the animal has been spayed or neutered, the $25 fee is available to be returned to the adopter.**

In rural areas of Tennessee, there are little to no Animal Services in most counties. There are currently no free or low-cost spay and neuter clinics in our area, and the limited programs to assist with spay and neuter run out of money quickly; therefore, there is a huge problem with an overpopulation of unwanted animals. Animals are being dumped on back roads or may even be shot because there is nowhere for them to go. We are an open-admission shelter trying to help as many of these animals as possible. Today's is brought to you by Mulder and Pirate, who are currently looking for their forever homes!

Mulder is a 7-month-old Border Collie/Beagle mix boy. Pirate is a 1-year-old Australian Shepherd mix boy. Both of these sweethearts are neutered and up to date on all of their vaccines!

Pirate has been here at our shelter since November of 2024 and has so much love and energy that he can hardly contain himself sometimes haha. He is a very smart young lad, he knows his basic commands and even knows how to roll over (with the proper bribery of course) Pirate loves everything and everyone, he likes to play with his friend Flower, who is also available for adoption. He wants to say hello to all the animals on the property and be their friend. This sweet boy doesn't have a bad bone in his body and would thrive in any home where he could get all the love and exercise his heart desires.

Mulder has been with us since January 2 of this year, and he is just as cute as can be! He loves playing fetch and keep away with his toys. We're working on his crate and potty training, but he isn't a fan of being by himself for very long so after some time in his crate he begins to cry and make Hyena noises. Mulder is a very social puppy with a bit of a shy side, but once he gets to know you he will be your best friend to the end. He gets along with other dogs but is a little scared of the cats we have on site. This little tike would make a lovely addition to any home!

If anyone is interested in adopting one of these boys please head to our website and fill out an application! Mulder and Pirate can't wait to meet their new families! https://horseplus.org/adopt/

💗HOME NEEDED!!💗
Name: Jäger
Gender: Male
Approximate Age: 2 years
- Jäger is a beautiful, 2 year old, German Shepherd who is looking for his forever home! He LOVES water and playing with his food bowl. This sweet boy doesn't quite realize just how big he is, in his mind, he is a lap dog and you cannot convince him otherwise! He would thrive in a home with either an active couple or a family with kids he can play with. Jäger is a huge baby but is also very attentive and will "stand guard" if he has an open window to look outside.

Jäger gets along well with other dogs and cats; due to his size, we'd recommend monitoring him around cats. Not that he would hurt one intentionally, but in our past experience, the GSD breed likes to use their paws like hands, and he very well could try to put his foot on one trying to play. He is a gentle giant that just needs a little help on how to play without throwing his weight around

If you are interested in adopting this giant love bug, please fill out an adoption application and schedule a time to come meet him! Learn More:

Update on the Spay/Neuter Clinic!! 🥳

The progress on our new clinic is coming along wonderfully! The concrete flooring was poured today. Next on the list is the framework that encloses the building. WOOHOO!!!

We could not be more excited for the completion of this building so that we can better aid the small animals in our community and in the surrounding counties! This building will not only serve as a spay & neuter clinic but will also serve as a soft landing for the precious animals that need our help in finding their forever homes!

Goodbye Shadow 💔🌈

This sweet baby’s name is Shadow! Shadow came to our shelter this morning with a gut-wrenching prognosis; this poor angel suffers from chronic seizures, is completely deaf, and has an infection in his brain. All of these things were confirmed and diagnosed by the veterinarian who saw him while he was under the care of the previous shelter. Shadow is a 3-month-old German Shepherd who should be the perfect picture of health, but due to improper breeding, he is plagued by his devastating illnesses and was tosed away to a shelter that tried their best to treat him before bringing him here to us.

Dr. Gina, one of the amazing vets that we have here on staff, confirmed that this pup's prognosis was very poor and with age would only get increasingly worse, even with medication. This information left us with the heartbreaking choice of releasing Shadow from his failing earthly body. Shadow will receive lots of love and peanut butter before crossing over the rainbow bridge. We loved this sweet little boy for the short amount of time that we knew him and will carry his memory in our heats. No dog should have to experience the pain and confusion that comes with being sick.

Unethical breeding is a heartbreaking reality that plagues our world, leaving a trail of suffering in its wake. It often begins with the greed of those prioritizing profit over the well-being of innocent lives. Animals, whether they be dogs, cats, or exotic species, are subjected to inhumane conditions, and forced to reproduce in overcrowded, unsanitary environments. Their health and happiness become secondary to the financial gains of breeders who care little for the consequences of their actions.

The offspring of these unethical practices frequently face dire fates. Many are born with genetic disorders, the result of inbreeding, lack of proper care, or poor genetics from the parents. They suffer from a range of ailments, from physical disabilities to emotional trauma. The pain and suffering these creatures endure overshadow the joy of bringing a new life into the world. Many are abandoned or surrendered to shelters, where their chances of finding a loving home diminish by the day.

The consequences extend beyond the individual animals. The environment also suffers, as the demand for certain breeds leads to overpopulation and the depletion of natural habitats. Species that once thrived in the wild face the threat of extinction, all because of the selfish desires of a few.

In the end, unethical breeding creates a cycle of despair that impacts not just the animals involved but the entire ecosystem. As we turn a blind eye to this tragedy, we must remember that every creature deserves compassion and care. The sadness that envelops this issue serves as a reminder of our responsibility to protect those who cannot speak for themselves, urging us to advocate for ethical practices that honor life and well-being.

Exciting News from Horse Plus! 🎉

As you may have noticed, we've undergone some changes! We're thrilled to announce the new name of our program from SAFE to Horse Plus PAWS (Providing Animal Welfare Services). 🐾

We're buzzing with excitement! There's been a lot of hard work behind the scenes to prepare for our new low-cost spay/neuter clinic. This clinic will offer essential services like vaccinations, microchipping, and more to cats and dogs in need. 🐶🐱

Groundbreaking and construction for the clinic are scheduled to start THIS MONTH! 🏗️ We can't wait to see this project come to life. While there's still work to be done after the building is up, we're so grateful for the progress.

A special thanks to Bob Barker, whose generous $100,000 estate gift made this possible. 🙏 This gift has been instrumental in funding both our education center (almost complete!) and this much-needed spay/neuter clinic and small animal shelter.

We're incredibly excited to continue serving animals in need through these expanded services. Stay tuned for updates! ❤️
