In our program I’m always looking to improve the horses and continue to grow as a rider so I can share more with the students! I have a lot of respect for dressage but couldn’t tell you the first thing about doing it. This weekend I tried something new and went to a dressage clinic taught by Ken Borden. Last minute I decided to bring Halo instead of one of my older, more broke horses and her and I both learned so much! You’ll see her biggest struggle is accepting contact on the bit and holding collection, but when she gets it, I think she looks pretty cool. She will be making her way to a western dressage show or two this year.

Halo is slowly starting to step up into a lesson horse role! I’ll be making an intro post for her soon so be on the lookout for that! She can be a challenging ride so very proud of this student and how they worked together tonight! Halo is on the green side but is progressing nicely!

My first year of coaching for Illinois State University has come to a close. And what a great weekend to wrap up the year! 4th place in the region and so many great rides. This team worked so hard this year and their improvements continued to show throughout the season, we saw such huge improvements in their riding and in their score sheets. It was such an honor to be their coach and I’m already looking forward to next year.

Offering a special 2 day winter camp! Our beginner camp is open to everyone ages 5+, and our advanced camp is open to students in any lesson program that are able to canter on their own. Both camps will have riding both days, games, and horse care activities, and our advanced camp will be learning some ground work skills as well! Message me to sign up!

Super proud of our sweet Jazzy this weekend! She got to go to college! Jazzy participated in her first IHSA horsemanship show and handled it so well. For those who don’t know how the IHSA shows are run it is off of a random draw for horses, and you don’t get to practice on them ahead of time, you draw a horse and have to go show and in this case ride a pattern on a new horse. Over the course of the weekend she had 10 riders that never met her before ride her, and did 5 different patterns. She was quiet and levelheaded through it all which I would have never thought this horse would be able to do something like this, especially coming off of a 3 day barrel race last weekend. It was a mental challenge for her for sure but I’m so happy with how she did! She had a few minor things to work out but overall such a great experience!

Happy 3rd birthday to Painted Ha-Lo Ranch! We signed the lease 3 years ago yesterday. Living out a childhood dream has been such a blessing even though it’s a lot of work and sometimes a lot of stress. We have changed and grown so much since starting and I’m thankful for our wonderful boarders, lesson students, and everyone else who has been part of this journey. I’ll have to put all the pictures side by side so you can see the changes to our family through the years!

This weekend was the start of the IHSA Western season! So proud of the team from Illinois State University for placing in every class they were in this weekend! We learned a lot and have a lot to work on but it was an amazing start to the year. I can’t wait to watch the team grow and improve throughout the season. And thank you so much to Black Hawk College Equestrian Program for hosting a great show with great horses. I graduated from the school in 2018 and it felt great to be back.

This horse has been a personal project for years and one of the two horses the farm is named after! We’ve had a rough start but she is finally starting to come along nicely! I am currently offering off-site lessons so I can come to you! I am insured to teach at any facility I go to so PM me if you need some help with your own horse in the comfort of your own arena!

So proud of this group at the horse show this weekend! Everyone did fantastic in their pleasure and speed classes, lots of top 3 placings! And lesson horse Jazzy won the high point for senior pleasure! Great job!

Miss Diva joined the lesson horse crew in July! She knows western and English pleasure, and speed events and is the sweetest little horse. We are accepting new students as well starting in September!

Painted Ha-Lo Ranch will be looking to add more students to the schedule end of summer/early fall this year! We focus on learning how to care for our horses and solid foundations in horsemanship, and offer many opportunities to travel with us to horse shows! Last weekend was a huge success for the students and boarders at Painted Ha-Lo Ranch! We went to the awesome show hosted by The Legacy Ranch. Many top 6 finishes in HUGE classes for this group in everything from pleasure, to ranch, to barrels and poles! It was a crazy day so I don’t remember everyone’s exact placings in every class, but some highlights for the day:

Ella showing Kruz with many first and seconds in the pleasure and pattern classes

Sophia on Louie with a second in Equitation and some high finishes in the English pleasure and all discipline pleasure classes (big classes!)

Chezni riding Sagebrush and Moonstone with a ribbon for just about every class! Pleasure and barrel classes, and a second in her first ever horsemanship pattern! She kept up with all the big kids and adults at only 7 years old

Tessa on Sagebrush with a win in youth barrels and top 5 finish in youth poles! And won the egg and spoon.

Ryane on Jazzy with a 3rd in youth barrels and top 5 in poles

Taylor riding her horse Thunder with a 5th in the open barrels and some really nice rides in the pleasure classes too!

Kelli riding Jazzy with a 6th in a big ranch rail class and some other nice western pleasure class rides!

Everyone did fantastic, supported each other, and worked like a team and I’m so proud of the hard work each and every one of them put in! If I missed anyones placing or special note please remind me and I will put it in! Can’t thank you all enough for allowing me to do what I love.

Meet the lesson horses! Today’s horse is Jazzy.

Jazzy came to the lesson program at the end of October last year. Full name is ApprovedApache Review and she is 7 years old! Jazzy spent the first years of her life on a ranch working cows, checking fences and trail riding. She has had roping training and spent a summer running barrels. Since she has been a part of Painted Ha-also Ranch, she has shown in western and English pleasure classes, ranch riding, and horsemanship/equitation and has been quite successful. She has been restarted on the barrel pattern to clean things up. She is always willing to try and learn new things and takes FANTASTIC care of all students, from walk/trot peewees to our advanced riders! I’m super excited for the students to be able to learn from such a reliable, athletic young mare!
