Please welcome Dr. Karen Park to the Aina Haina Veterinary Clinic family! 💙🩺

👩🏻‍⚕️ Dr. Park was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii. She is a graduate of Punahou School. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Science at UC Davis then graduated Summa Cum Laude from Tuskegee University School of Veterinary Medicine. She completed a rotating internship at Veterinary Specialty Hospital San Diego then pursued additional surgical internship at Dallas Texas Veterinary Surgical Centers.

🐾 Dr. Park’s commitment to her patients is driven by her belief in the importance of the human-animal bond and the well-being of companion animals as cherished members of our Ohana

☀️ In her free time, she enjoys the Great outdoors! You can find her at the beach, hiking or traveling with her husband, kids and dogs- a dachshund and a three legged Labrador! 🐶 Her dream is to snowboard Mauna Kea and Surf in the same day!

💭 Did you know dogs need sunscreen too? ☀️

We know many dogs love to sunbathe, including Kei, but it can lead to sunburn and skin cancer.

🐾 The most common areas that develop skin cancer are their bellies and noses, especially if they are lightly pigmented or have a white coat.

Here are some ways to help prevent skin cancer in your pets:
🌤️ Sunscreen. Baby sunscreens that do NOT contain Zinc Oxide are pet friendly!
🌤️ Providing your pet with shade.
🌤️ Early detection. Contact your veterinarian if you notice any new lumps or bumps!

Meet Rusty 🩵 He is a 14 year old Labrador who came in 4 weeks ago to see Dr. Sakamoto. It was difficult for him to walk by himself, get up from a seated position, and his owner noticed an increased amount of panting. 🩺 Dr. Sakamoto diagnosed Rusty with osteoarthritis 🦴 using radiographs and treated him with Librela and an anti-inflammatory medication.

Rusty came in for his check up and has shown significant improvement! Rusty’s family is very thrilled with his progress thus far! 🫶🏼
