When I first met Sukie and her sturdy Mustang mare Salsa, I quickly realized that this was a woman who had accepted that she would always be riding in saddles that never quite fit her, and instead focused on making sure her horses were comfortable and healthy as her #1 priority. She had 5 saddles with her, some of which fit her horse, none of which fit her.⁠

A fit 183 cm tall endurance rider with an extremely long femur, she needs a saddle that will allow her to ride in a balanced effortless equitation position, while not interfering with her horse’s movement, while providing support and stability for both horse and rider.⁠

My 18” EDIX Emir fit Salsa beautifully, and fit Sukie closely enough to give it a good test. Sukie decided to take the plunge for a custom Emir. I worked with EDIX to discuss her needs and we studied photos of her in my stock Emir. ⁠

The result is an 18.5” Emir, which keeps the tree and panels short enough for Salsa’s back, while placing the stirrup-bar in the correct place for Sukie to keep her heel perfectly under her hip. But what about all that leg!??!? We didn’t want to give her an exaggerated forward flap, since that could annoy Salsa’s shoulder over 80 km of rough terrain, so we gave her a 4cm longer flap, which also brought the flap slightly forward to maintain proportions.⁠

I jumped up and down and squealed a little when I received a note from Sukie after their first ride:⁠
"This really is the best fitting English saddle for me that I have ever sat in. And I can get my leg on the horse much more easily. Also, posting in this saddle feels effortless. Why is that???? How can it make THAT much difference???? -Sukie”⁠

Well just how custom can a "Little Black Dress' saddle really be?

I apologize for the less-than-glamorous photos. We are having a torrential downpour outside (so no pretty Fall colors) and inside is rather gloomy too.

This custom EDIX Emir has just the right amount of patent leather accents to make a statement. Always demure... Very classy in an understated Jackie O sort of way.

This saddle is made fully with our new leather from our Belgian tannery - Radermecker. Supple and slightly grippy with a deep rich feel and texture.

Flip it over, and you will see custom panels requested by the customer, with broad panels at the rear for extra contact and stability, paired with cutback panels at the front to free up the shoulder.

The devil is in the details 😎.

I have 2 people on my fitting for this route.

Can we get a 3rd?

My route for this trip will be Hoodsport - Poulsbo - Kingston - Edmonds - Bothel - Monroe, then back

I only go this route about once a year, so take advantage of this now, if possible.

Adding a 3rd person reduces the mileage cost for everyone, and it also makes a very long full-day trip much more worth it for me business-wise.

I do need to get the 2 that are signed up fitted and taken care of, but it you are on that route and need a fitting, hop on the schedule and it's a win for everyone.

Hoping to go this coming week or week after.

Who needs a fitting in the direction of Bothel/Monroe?

I need to do an in-person fitting in that area. Mileage fee + ferry will be $186. That's steep for one person. If i can add 1 or 2 more to the route, the travel costs can be split and make it reasonable for everyone.

GHOST saddles - your saddle, your style. Each saddle is hand-made in Treviso Italy by Camillo Cavallin and his family, and you customize every single one. I have rarely seen 2 alike.

The colorful and the wild are great fun, but still nothing quite like a classic black Fiore leather jumping saddle. Chef's kiss.

GHOST Italy monoflap with a show-legal pommel and enough d-rings for trail rides too! It's headed off to Whidbey Island in the morning, and will be used to jump up to 1 meter. This one has a semi-flexx base with the new Arabo fit (designed especially to sit balanced and supported on an Arab's unique conformation)

A customer has been messaging me today for help finding a non-merino pad to fit under the Union saddle/BBP. So i have been popping various pads under my inventory Union.

Moonrise over Black Hills Bonanza endurance ride.
