It’s with heavy hearts that we announce that we have officially reached the end of an era. One of our first colonies has to be completely relocated due to the building being torn down. We have briefly mentioned this already but we were checking out other areas close by that could have prevented this and potentially be great options 😢

When our group founder found this colony it originally had 50+ cats in it! Upon investigation, she found out the cats have been there for 35+ years. This colony has become a local favorite and everyone will be so sad to see it go.

Over the years we have been able to rescue and adopt out around 12 kittens from this colony but the current colony standing is around 20-25 cats. This is a true testament of what a trap, neuter, release program can do to a feral cat population.

We have been fortunate to find the bulk of the colony new homes, one being with their main caretaker and with a family that we have worked with in the past that loves to help animals and helps out in desperate situations. With that being said, we are looking for barn homes for around 10 kitties still.

In order to make the transition easy for both you and the kitties, you would need to keep them enclosed and confined in their new home for about 4 weeks while they acclimate to their new environment. We recommend doing 2-3 of these guys together as they will have familiarity with their colony mates and feel more at ease quicker. We would help with food and providing their warming houses for extra comfort to the kitties. If this sounds like something you could do and are looking for, send us a message!

We are in desperate need of building supplies for the catio the bulk of the colony will live in with their main caretaker. The elderly cats and potentially adoptable cats will stay with her 🥹 . If you would like to donate to the catio and it’s supplies here’s an Amazon list of the immediate needs to help the transition over the next month easier on everyone:

Leaving Hotel Hell now. Kitties have fresh water, litter, food, a bed, and toys. There are four, not three. One is mama and her three teens. Two of the teens are petrified and the other wants to come up to you so bad. Given time I think they would. Video of mama drinking water like she’s never had any. If you are a rescue and can take them, please message us.

A continuation of the Hotel Hell story:

This “hotel” is a long term housing hotel for those who have hit unforeseen circumstances. While we totally get hitting hard times this is NO excuse to abandon your cat. Today the management let us know yet another group of cats has been left in a room. Luckily, they were found only a day after the resident moved out. He isn’t responding to any calls or texts and left with an outstanding balance. This leads us to believe he will not be back for his three cats. The cats are scared, but look healthy. One is more outgoing and wants to be pet. The other two are hiding under the bed. Management let us know the “owner” rescued two of these cats last year as kittens after some SOB tied them in a bag and threw them in the dumpster. We are in a predicament. We can’t place three more adult cats, but we can’t let this be the end to their story. If you are a RESCUE and can pull them, please message us. We will help fundraise for any vetting. If you are interested in adopting, we will help fundraise for vetting, but can’t guarantee the health or status of the cats as of now.

Please refrain from any negative comments. We are thinking them too. We are also actively brainstorming how to prevent this from happening again. Right now, our focus is getting these guys out and into a safer position.

Potato update!

Potato is just a lump of love. Since I’ve been caring for him since he was about six months old we have strong bond and he trusts me. He’s struggling a little to let other people (aka his foster mom) in, but it’s only been a week. And this week had a lot of firsts! First car ride he could remember, first vet visit he could remember, first time inside, you get the gist. He’s going to take time to decompress, but we all are very optimistic about his continued progress. I know he will learn to trust others and make someone so happy. Here’s a little photo dump of my last few visits with him.

PSA: Yes I would love to keep him. If I could feasibly make it work with my space, time, and other cats I would without a second thought. Unfortunately, that wouldn’t be fair to him or my babies. So I’m going to help him, his foster, and his future family on every step of his journey. I’ll celebrate all milestones with a full heart knowing I made the right, albeit heartbreaking choice for my boy. So please, please don’t ask my why I don’t just keep him.

Don’t forget we have some TNR alums up for adoption still!

Walt Whitman and Henry David Thoreau were dumped with their three brothers right before it got really cold. We ended up grabbing them all. They acted shy/nervous outside, but once inside that all changed. They love laying with their foster dad, get along well with others, and even allow belly rubs! What amazing kitties they are! Their brothers have been adopted and these boys are so ready for their forever homes too.

Olivia is one of our more recent rescues. Y’all followed her story from the very beginning. She is also the sweetest girl with a LOUD opinion. She seems pretty easy going. She gives little love nips and loud purrs. If she’s anything like Chappell, Harry, and Sabrina, she will do well with pups too.

Chappell is the most gorgeous, outgoing, love. She likes her foster sister pup a lot and just has confidence oozing out of her. She was a dump with Sabrina, Olivia, and Harry too. She will actually be at the Kitty Kabin at Kitty Kat Haven and Rescue tomorrow making her debut!

If you’re considering adding one (or two) of these amazing cats to your family please fill out an adoption application at kittykathavenrescue.org!

Until we find placement for all our Roebuck kitties I’m going to sound like a broken record. I’ll be posting individual and pairs daily. As eager as we are to find them homes, we will be doing it in a methodical and careful way. Relocating feral cats is a last resort. There are steps that have to be followed. They will need a holding area to acclimate to their new home for 4-6 weeks before being released. We also will ask you complete a very minimal adoption form and contract. We have put so much love and care into these babies and have to trust they go to good homes.

I also want to share the other solution we have come up with. Their caretaker has agreed to build a custom catio for at least half of the cats. This will provide them with immediate safety until more long term homes can be provided for them. We all know when they start demolishing their home they WILL scatter and we will have a really hard, next to impossible, time trying to locate and trap them at that point. I’ll definitely share how you guys can help us with this catio. In the future we may also utilize it for other Scratch and Dent kitties. Anyway, this is going to be a stressful month but I am so hopeful we can figure out a landing spot for one of our OG colonies.

To say this week has been tough is an understatement. Our OG Roebuck crew is in danger. The location they are at is being demolished and we need to get them out of there by April 1. This colony has lived in this location for 35+ years. They’ve been there longer than I’ve been alive. We took over the colony about 4-5 years ago. Since then we have trapped and fixed almost every single cat, rehomed, provided medical care, adopted out kittens, and saved dumped cats from this group. Their caretakers Alicia and Kathy go above and beyond setting an example of excellent colony care and compassion. Their hearts are broken for these cats. We have a couple of ideas on how to save them, but we need to start with barn homes. These cats are so loving and really trust each other so we will be looking for people who could take pairs. There are 20+ cats in this colony. Please keep an eye out for our next post regarding these cats. And please share! We have such a limited time. If you need to reach us please email at [email protected]

A happy Tater in his element ❤️ Sweet boy is still getting used to his foster mom, so I try to visit as much as I can. He loves his belly rubs. Whoever adopts this sweet boy is gonna take a chunk of my heart with them. And you’ll be so lucky! He’s the best boy.

Update on sweet girl:

Kitty is stable. Very anemic at 14% but the vet said by the way she is acting they feel this is not acute anemia but rather chronic over weeks which likely is due to what she has been thru. Will get warm subq fluids, a panel of vitamins and recommends being on a heat source since the anemia can contribute to hypothermia.

Hotel Hell update:

Today we got some devastating news. There was a sixth cat in the hotel hell room. When we entered this situation we were told there were three cats. We tore the whole room apart to get these cats and found five, not three. Somehow, somewhere number six was hiding. No one has entered that room for ten weeks. Ten weeks of drinking sewage water and scraping by eating…what? We don’t know. We are all truly heartbroken and absolutely sick. We immediately went to get this sixth cat. They didn’t have a lot of energy and didn’t really fight us. We grabbed them and headed to Blue Pearl Emergency Vet. We are in the room waiting on their assessment. We aren’t pointing fingers. We aren’t placing blame. We are going to take this baby and move forward. We left food just in case and will have a camera in the room tomorrow. If you can help us with this emergency bill, please donate through PayPal or Venmo . We will update you with more information as we have it.
