Laura's Hope Rescue

Laura's Hope Rescue We are a completely volunteer, 501(c)(3) non profit, private dog rescue located in Northeastern Penns If you can't adopt try fostering. What's that? No Fears!

LHR opened it's doors in 2009 and has since rescued and adopted out over 2300dogs and counting. We take in all breeds and ages and help turn them into wonderful family pets that anyone would be proud to call one of their family. We are currently in need of other foster families for when are dogs come in. Typically, they are with you anywhere from 1 to 3 weeks. In that time, you can teach your tem

porary companion how to love and trust a person and be the best doggie he/she can be! The rescue will supply all the dogs needs. You say you can't have dogs where you live but would still like to help out. You can always come up to the rescue and sit and play with the dogs. Or, you could teach them basic commands, proper doggie manners or even teach them to walk nice on a leash. The options are limitless. Any love and compassion you can show these boys and girls will last them a lifetime. Would you like to help in other ways? The rescue is always open to monetary donations or if you'd like, you can pick a specific dog to sponsor until he or she gets adopted. We can give you a weekly update on how he/she is doing, photos included! If you prefer, you can donate supplies too! Leashes and harnesses are always in high demand. So are small area rugs or pillows for our furry friends to sleep on. Whatever it is, know the dogs will love it and be FURever grateful. Where can you see these precious beings? Well check us out at www.Petfinder.com/shelters/PA714.html

Patrick Swayze once said, “They told me my house smelled like dogs, and I asked them, do you know what a dog smells like?” It smells like gratitude, loyalty, nobility, affection, pure unconditional love. And in spite of all they’ve been through, they smell no resentment. So blessed that my house smells like dogs. “

please keep Katie‘s family in your prayers

Warning: Long Post Alert

When I first met Curt, a wise friend told me, "If the dogs don't like you, you don't stand a chance. " The advice was intimidating for this self-proclaimed Cat Lover who had never owned a dog. I soon learned that Cooper would be my best friend as long as I gave him a treat. I'm sure there's some sound canine training advice in that. The technique works to this day.

But Kayte? She was more skeptical. She'd take her treat, move to the opposite side of the room, and watch me. I have no doubt she was judging me. Her role as the queen seemed well established, and she was unsure about this new person fitting in. Every movie night? Curt, me...and Kayte. Every dinner night? Curt, me...and Kayte. Every hug goodbye? Curt, me...and Kayte. And truthfully, I was okay with her keeping her distance. She was a dominant pup for someone with no dog experience.

When we moved to our house, something changed. Kayte seemed to grow and develop in the new turf. One night in particular, I was feeling especially overwhelmed with everything to do at the house. Sitting in the middle of the dining room floor, I was surprised when Kayte came over, laid down, and put her paw on my leg. I think she realized I needed a lot of help! 😁 And from that moment on, she became my dog. She alerted me to every subtle sound within the county, or so it seemed. She followed me everywhere I went, always checking on me and needing to know my location. I've learned the term for this is "velcro." If this is the case, she was the stickiest kind. She was by my side the second she thought I needed her. Without doubt, I had the safest virtual Algebra I classroom in the state. By just saying her name, I knew she'd coming running. Sometimes, I truly think she could read my thoughts with her eyes, one that was partly a gorgeous blue.

It was so hard saying goodbye today. God paired me with the perfect dog that I needed. Kayte, you left a huge void. I know I am early in my dog owning years, but I can't imagine finding another dog quite like you. And you accomplished the impossible. Because if... on the off chance...if possibly...this cat lover now has a part of her heart that belongs in dog world (I'm not admitting a thing), but if that's the case, it's all because of you, Kayte Lady.

Love you, girlfriend.
