The Homestead Rabbitry - Champagne D'Argent Rabbits

The Homestead Rabbitry - Champagne D'Argent Rabbits Wes and Deborah Kloos live in Horse Shoe, NC and sold Champagne D'Argent rabbits. Now out of business Dr. Wesley E.

The Homestead Rabbitry was first established in 1948 by the Kloos family at North Branch Station, NJ, and continued until 1964. During that time, the principal breeds raised were Champagne D'Argents and Standard and American Chinchillas. The rabbits were shown and won awards at local, state, regional and national conventions. Kloos was an ARBA judge and registrar in the 1950's - 1960's, but retire

d upon entry into the US Army Medical Service Corps. Upon retiring after 40 years as a professor in the Genetics Department at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, NC, Wes re-established the rabbitry in 2010 in Horse Shoe, NC in the beautiful mountains near Asheville. Deborah retired in 2014 from medical device regulatory affairs, and together they now enjoy raising their bunnies, chickens, and lots of flowers. Following the Western North Carolina tradition of sustainable agriculture, The Homestead Rabbitry continues to produce breeding stock for both show rabbits and meat production. Our new Homestead Rabbitry stock descends from lines of Ed Hildebrand, Ray List, Bobby Crosby, Nathan Persinger and Jerry Fisher, and many of those lines originated from the stock of early Champagne breeders such as Oren Reynolds and Wayne Cleer.

UPDATE: As of this past weekend, we have sold all of our rabbit stock, equipment and cages. Thanks so much for all of your support through the years! Wes still wants to attend a couple of rabbit shows every year, and always welcomes the opportunity to talk about rabbits or answer questions. Although we have closed our website, this page will remain open for any future communication.

NOTICE - FOR SALE: Three purebred, pedigreed Champagne D'Argent Rabbits! Purchase all 3 rabbits together, or separately.
*Homestead's Jake ($50): Jake is a gentle buck, 1 1/2 years old, with a beautiful, mature silver coat.
*Jake's two remaining sons ($30 each): These are beautiful 3-month-old kits, born October 23, 2021, also with beautiful silver coats.
THESE ARE OUR REMAINING STOCK. WE ARE CLOSING OUR RABBITRY due to Wes's age and difficulty keeping his balance on our elevated property.
You may already know that the Champagne breed is used primarily for meat and fur, but many of our customers buy them strictly for showing at rabbits shows, or even for pets. Wes has selectively bred them to not only be prize-winners but to also be gentle in nature.
Champagne kits weigh in at 4-5 lbs. at 2 months of age and adult weights range from 9-12 pounds.
Wes started raising Champagnes in 1949 and over the years has sold many of them for meat, fur, show, and pets.
Please contact him at [email protected] to inquire about purchasing or to arrange a phone call or text.
We deeply appreciate your loyal patronage and support over these many years, and we pray that God will richly bless you in all you do.
Photos below are of Homestead's Jake and his kits. Only 2 remain from this litter of six.

Grandson Jase enjoyed helping Pop Pop and Nina (Wes and Deborah) feed the bunnies, chickens and ducks! Our Champagne rabbits are not only beautiful but also gentle - we breed for that personality trait in addition to color, fur, size, etc.

The bunny barn has a new look! The barn quilt sign was a gift to ourselves for Christmas.
The gift of a beautiful snowfall came overnight. We have 13-14” so far, with more snow expected tomorrow. We realize that some of you live in states that get this much snow every other day, but it’s a LOT for The South, y’all - even for these mountains!
