National Dog Day!
Happy national dog day!!!
Service Dog Training.
As a service dog, River needs to be comfortable just about anywhere. Cracker Barrel was pretty loud this morning, so it was to perfect place for him to practice being calm.
Does your dog know his name?

Patience is a virtue.

Early morning
Morning shenanigans.
Big love!
130+ lbs of love, headed right for me!!
Play time before the work begins. River the Standard Poodle has entered into service dog training here at Lola’s Place. We are getting some of his energy out before he starts working today.
When I board and train, all work and no play simply isn’t acceptable. Keep your pup happy and training sessions fun!
Loose leash walking
Loose leash walking can make your strolls paws-itively delightful!
Start early in your dogs life and keep practicing, they catch on quickly. Have an older dog that pulls? No problem, offer lots of praise and treats to begin with if they look back at you and the leash is loose. Try changing directions and TREAT when they turn around to follow you. Start practicing loose leash walking inside the house first. When they master that, begin walking them outside. You may only make it to the curb, stopping and waiting for them to ‘make the right decision’. But believe me, your patience and consistency NOW will pay off!! You’ll get to reap the rewards of pleasurable walks for years to come.

Learning to ignore other dogs
This is Mickey. We had the perfect opportunity this morning to ignore other dogs. Mickey has a lot of reactivity to other dogs, but I think he did great today! What better distraction than a loud basset hound, a bouncy Boxer and a 130ld Leonberger?
Teaching your puppy to come when called.
Come when called needs to be taught! It doesn’t come naturally. You need to teach your dog a ‘conditioned response’ to “Fido Come” by first practicing in your house with few distractions, using high value treats. Every time your puppy hears their name, followed by “come!” They get BACON (or chicken or cheese or…. Whatever treat your dog has deemed AWESOME!) Do this enough times and your dog will, over time, be conditioned to come to you every time you call them. This takes months and months. Not days or weeks. When working outside always be in a fenced area or have your dog on a long line (25-30 ft)

Walking on loose leash.
Little Gucci the French Bulldog learning to walk on leash without stopping and refusing to move! Takes quite a bit of encouragement but I think he’s doing great!

The three D’s…. Distance, duration and distraction. Good job Miss Bella!
Skye practicing her sit/stay in an unfamiliar place. Proud of her.
So much to see here! We are coming back with some great things for four legged clients!
Never forget how important it is to socialize your young dog. Has she met running water yet? Also VERY important to keep your dog hydrated on hot days! This was the perfect sunny day trip with Miss Skye.
