Client education time- can anyone see something just looking at this hoof?

1) what is it called?
2) what can cause it?
3) why is it important?

I call them stress rings. It’s a sign the hoof gives off when something stressful has happened: sickness, lameness/founder, poor farrier work, diet change, etc. It takes months-year for it to grow from the coronary band down.

These rings are actually deep
Grooves you can feel in both front feet. Sometimes they are t as noticeable.

12 months ago this horse was sound to be ridden and in training, switch of farrier and a change in shoeing 8 months ago crippled the horse even at a walk. Vet recommend pulling the “new, better, expensive l” type of shoes that were recommended by farrier and after a few weeks out of them horse became much better, and currently sound, 8 months later. Sometimes the new and expensive doesn’t work regardless if it theoretically should. Listen to your horse and this is why a vet/farrier relationship is so good to have!

Remember, Bad feet=no horse.

Just some Insight/PSA. It’s almost been a year of being open (time has flown!!!) and super grateful for how everything has gone but after some time to think and looking at our books, our prices will be going up (Not by much). I’ve tried to keep prices as low as I can to still pay my employees well and rarely pay myself. Unfortunately, we will need to make adjustments to better serve our customers and keep us going!

We will continue to have promos and specials so always keep a look out for those!

We don’t usually have livestock and farm animals on our schedules but today we got to go look at a steer lameness (not pictured), see Stirrup one of our sponsored FFA animals and have Harrison talk to a client about chicken health.

PSA: cold front coming in Monday/Tuesday of next week,if you don’t routinely feed electrolytes or table salt in feed, please start doing so! This will prevent impaction colics that tend to happen when colder weather hits. It helps increase water intake when they tend to decrease!

Happy vet tech week! We couldn’t be doing our job without the help of our assistants!

Some of you who have been around since day one know the few prior that left for other opportunities. We’re grateful for their time with us because without them we wouldn’t be here today.

Some of you have had the pleasure to meet Harrison the last couple of weeks. Harrison came to us from working at a donkey rescue in search for more medical training as he is applying for vet school!

Katie Drake is interning with us on Fridays to extend her background in the equine veterinary field as well.

We appreciate all their hard work and dedication to this field with hopes both of them become phenomenal veterinarians in the future.

Without our assistants help, Dr. T would be a mess! So if y’all get to see them anytime make sure to give them a huge thank you!

Y’all want to know where y’all’s money go. A big chunk of it was for sponsorships this year. 15k to be exact. Between two FFA student and 4 rodeo associations. I don’t do my job to live this amazing life, I do my job to give back to kids and associations that brought me to where I am. Forever grateful to all of them for making me the vet I am today.

We’re super proud to share that one of our FFA kids placed 5th at Pasadena rodeo this last week with some stiff competition. We’re super excited to watch Alexa grow as a FFA student and will continue to help her in a way we can. She worked very hard the previous months and it showed!

Why have a licensed veterinarian do your yearly things like teeth floats and not a “dentist” because whether I look like it or not, I do exams on the horses I work on. This little mare was just scheduled for a float today but I noticed just a very slight swelling and very slight cloudy eye when the owner brought her in . Turned out she had a grass seed the size of a pin point, stuck to her cornea that created an eye ulcer which becomes an emergency quickly!

Top video- Got a call that Short man took a stumble at the race this weekend and was not himself today. Choppy and just not wanting to have his hind end missed with. Bottom: immediately post adjustment. Watch his right hip drop hard in the first video compared to his left (uneven pelvis motion).Then watch the bottom video where he’s now moving evenly. You can also see the difference in movement in his hocks. You know it feels good to them because even though their ears are pinned when you go to set up on the contact point they lean into you with all their weight. ❤️ chiropractic adjustments help all horses! We made it through our first official full week open. New clients, old clients, it’s been a heck of a week. Coming home to organizing all the new gadgets and medicine is a great feeling. Peak at the new centrifuge that will be used for regenerative medicine ( ProStride, PRP, etc). I have come home every day exhausted in the best way. Thank you guys for making this possible ❤️.
