It's that time of year!

For anti-Valentines day lovers, we are running a fundraiser (thanks to the SA Zoo for the cool idea)!

Donate $2 to Joan of Heart Reptile Rescue and we will have a Facebook live on February 14th...where you get to watch our resident beardie eat a worm named after your least favorite people (ex, family, etc). No love here! 🤣❤️

Donations can be made via Cash app or Venmo:

Please be sure to include the name you would like us to announce!

Bumpy says thanks in advance for the wormies...and the support for all our scaley friends here at Joan of Heart!

Hi Everyone!

It's been a very busy holiday season for me at the zoo and things are finally starting to wind down. I just wanted to put a few things out there for the next coming months:

-I am doing a presentation about reptiles and zookeeping for school aged children at Maud Marks Library in Katy, TX over spring break (exact date tba) and would love for y'all to attend!

-Currently our rescue is empty; which is great news! Please feel free to reach out to us if you need help with rehabilitation and adopting out scaley friends.

-If you are new to reptiles and would like help setting up your vivarium, we are happy to point you in the right direction to quality informational material and will gladly help you set up at no charge. We want all animals to not just survive, but truly thrive in their environment.

Thank you so much for y'all's continued support, it means the world to me!

With love,
Mel

Not the update I wanted to give tonight.

Smaug earned his "dragon" wings this afternoon. After his X-rays were done he was shown to have extensive MBD, a broken leg and a broken pelvis. We made the very difficult decision to put him out of his pain under the advice of our vet.

Please, please take care of your reptiles. UVB is not an option. It is a requirement. Supplements are not options, they are requirements. All of his misery could have been easily avoided with proper husbandry.

I'll miss your little tongue flicks and bright eyes little buddy. Love you bunches.

Welcome to our newest rescue!

Smaug is a Savannah Monitor Lizard. He was surrendered by his owner. He is in pretty rough shape. He has a large abscess on his tail and has a very swollen left arm. I am crossing all of my fingers that it's not broken or severe MBD 🫠

Smaug is now being spoiled rotten and has since been moved to nice, soft, substrate. He is being kept quarantine bare right now so I can monitor his movements.

He was very unhappy, hissing and tail whipping when I brought him home. Last night he let me pet him, and even ate and drank for me! I'm hoping he will be on the mend soon. I will keep everyone updated after his vet visit tonight.

***PLEASE READ**

Hi everyone. My name is Melissa, and I am the owner of Joan of Heart Reptile Rescue. Welcome! I wanted to make a few things clear about our rescue:

We DO NOT sell animals. I DO NOT buy animals to sell. I DO NOT make ANY money off of this. So please, have some courtesy and compassion.

There is no charge to adopt from us. HOWEVER- we believe in our animals not just surviving, but thriving. They do not go to just anyone and JOARR has the right to deny adoption if we do not believe it's a good fit.

In case you missed it...we DO NOT SELL ANIMALS- I am not a breeder. I am simply someone who loves animals and wants the best for them.

That being said- if you are interested in adopting one of our animals, please fill out the Google form at the top of the page. If you need to surrender an animal, please fill out the Owner Surrender form at the top of the page.

I appreciate each and every one of you who supports the rescue. Every animal is special, scales or furry and they deserve a chance at a loving home.

My sweet baby Nacho 💙🦎 I love Leopard Geckos. Their sweet little faces, curiosity and gentle nature can't be matched. I never get tired of putting my kiddos to bed and going to see if Nacho is awake in his enclosure. He's always right up at the door smiling up at me, ready to come out for his exploring and cuddle time 🥹
