Update 1/8/24: Bruiser has one hold for an off island adoption👏🏼 further conversations about this adoption will happen today!

BRUISER UPDATE 1/5/24🚨

After 8 days in a Paws To Adopt trial adoption home (PTA), Bruiser was returned to the shelter. He exhibited great behavior with 4 of the 5 dogs in the home, but we learned that he and the intact male in the home did not get along. As much as we wish things worked out, learning more about Bruiser in a home environment is extremely valuable to finding the best fit for him! Here’s what we learned:

🐾He did not present any jumpy/mouthy behaviors in the home... even better, these behaviors have decreased while he’s been back at the shelter!
🐾He is closer to being house trained (indoor/outdoor access was helpful!) and leash trained.
🐾He loves plush toys, chew toys, playing fetch, running and walking, and soft dog beds.
🐾He knows sit, stay & come.
🐾He enjoys meeting new people.

Sadly, since returning to the shelter, Bruiser hasn’t been his perky self. He lies at the front of his kennel or in his bed with his head down all day - a different side of him we have not seen before. Bruiser needs an adopter ASAP before his mental health declines again in our care. Thankfully, the solution is simple... while in a home environment, Bruiser is the happy-go-lucky dog we all know and love!

Maui Humane Society has provided Bruiser with a GoodPup scholarship to assist his new family with training, and on-island trainer recommendations are also available. If any off-island adopters are interested in Bruiser, MHS can assist with transportation, as well.

We know that Bruiser can be successful in a home... we just need someone to take a chance on him! If you want to adopt Bruiser, please email [email protected] ASAP!
