Our beloved dog Byron vanished from our yard New Years 2020. He was microchipped and well loved so we put up flyers, checked BARC, really anything we could think of to find him. Unfortunately, we never located him or were alerted that he was found, but we never gave up hope and still searched for him every day. After looking for Byron for over year, we decided to check our microchip registry again for any additional info we could find. To our surprise, Byron was no longer in our account. Shockingly, it turned out he had been re-registered to another person, without us ever being notified! We were able to find out that the chip had been batch uploaded by the Poodle Rescue of Houston without our consent. We got into contact with the rescue immediately to notify them this was our dog. To our dismay, the Poodle Rescue of Houston confirmed they sold him to someone else way back in February 2020! As restitution, they begged us to take their offer of a "new puppy" in return. The Poodle Rescue of Houston claims they have gotten in contact with the person who currently has Byron and they don't want to give him back to us. We understand that the new person hasn't done anything wrong, but its not fair for us to lose our microchipped dog who we had raised since birth. He is part of our family. We did everything right, please help us get our Bryon back! FAQ:
How did Byron's microchip get changed? His microchip was batch uploaded by Poodle Rescue of Houston, and essentially the rescue was just allowed to change it. To quote the email from our microchip registry:
"As the microchip company, we do not determine ownership based on microchip registration, which is why we process transfer requests when new owners send us paperwork with their pet's microchip number on it, or if one of our trusted partners batch uploads a chip into our database (which is what happened in this case). When we make a transfer based on ownership paperwork or partner upload, we actually don’t need to notify the previous registered owner (as microchip registration is not proof of ownership)." Was your microchip information up to date? Yes, in fact two days after Byron was "rehomed" we got a false positive. Brianna, who nursed Byron when he was born and used him as an emotional support animal, was heartbroken that Byron was gone and started carrying around his microchip information in her wallet. A few days after Byron was "rehomed" she happened to lose her wallet and someone was kind enough to use the the microchip information to return it to her. Was Byron a certified emotional support animal? I (Savannah) was diagnosed with cancer at a young age. My sister, who is eight years younger than I am, was having an even harder time with it than I was and I was throwing up all the time due my medication! We actually got Byron for the express purpose of being an emotional support animal for her because the stress of seeing me struggle through treatment. It was very hard on her to see me like that. While Byron didn’t have a certification, he was professionally trained to know basic commands and comfort her as needed.
