Observe. Catch energy. Design like a forest — a garden that requires minimal tending.
So much of Permaculture is continuous learning. This is such a great path for us because we are lifelong learners. We also really love sharing what we learn with the community and implementing it in designs for our clients.
This particular design we installed at our own community garden, which was a problematic space that constantly overrun by invasive grasses and weeds. After learning from people who are much smarter than us, we got some help from our friends at Urban Harvest to install the seven layer forest garden. When everything is grown in, it should require little maintenance, which is great because we have an entire farm and two businesses to run!
What’s the most important thing to know about this post is that we couldn’t have done this without friends and loads of help. Having an earthworks project on our site was something that actually made us emotional.
Oftentimes this urban farm life is all about doing really hard labor on your own or with a handful of people who are willing to work for a beer and conversation, or just to help a neighbor out. Having an entire team out to install this after having learned about principles of permaculture for the last year was just an incredible impact and it feels like a gift for us after having spent the last four years offering up our space and spaces all over our property for the community.
We couldn’t be more grateful to Urban Harvest for this permiculture certification process… AND I graduate in just a couple short months!

Attaya, the ceremony, celebrated in The Gambia, Mauritania, and Senegal, are lively ceremonies in three rounds. Celebrating the pains of growing up, the joy of doing grown folks tings, and then the changes of old age, this ceremony is an opportunity to embrace life in community. Alongside our tea ceremony will be somatic movement (aka dance) that traces these stops along the journey of life. #houstonevents #houstonyoga

F L O W STATE.
Bad weather doesn’t stop events from happening. It’s wild how horrendous weather sweeps through the city, and Houston takes a day to reset then moves on (when possible).
I’m taking today to prep for a bouquet-making event tomorrow. The client was in the path of the storm, so I’m hopeful I can add some joy for them. They are such good people!
I love doing these events for your special moments — birthdays, family reunions, wedding parties, and friends’ night out. If you’d like a bouquet-making party for your next event, give us a holler.
