🚨USDA’s new salmonella rules could destroy small farmers and your access to clean, local poultry!

The USDA’s Food Safety Inspection Service (FSIS) is proposing a new salmonella framework that sounds good on paper but could devastate small farms and processors - and limit YOUR access to healthy, local poultry.

Here’s what it means:
🐔Poultry flagged with certain Salmonella levels would be labeled “adulterer”, making it illegal to sell unless cooked first. Big processors can manage this, but small ones can’t, forcing them to trash perfectly good poultry.

If this passes, here’s what you’ll see:
❌Loss of local options: Up to 40% of small processors could shut down, leaving farmers without places to process

💸Higher prices: Compliance costs will skyrocket, and YOU will pay the price

🥩Loss of food sovereignty: USDA could condemn birds - even those you raise for your own table

🧪More chemical processing: Small processors may have to use chemical treatments, reducing access to clean, natural poultry.

FACT: Small farms and processors aren’t the source of Salmonella outbreaks. Despite stricter regulations, illnesses have NOT decreased.

More rules ≠ Better outcomes

This proposed solution is not effective in addressing the concerns of consumers for safe or clean poultry. Please go back and listen to the stakeholder comments to draft a new solution that allows consumers to maintain private ownership of their poultry and ensures access to non-chemically-sterilized poultry if we so choose”
