Rory had an exciting first lesson. She decided that the leash was her favorite chew toy so we had to break her if that habit. Look at this dog after twenty minutes working on not thinking her leash was food. She is walking great with her dad and he is rewarding her every time he takes a few steps and no leash in her mouth. On this day I worked with Kimmy and two different commands. Her WAIT command in which some people would usually use stay. Wait gives her a boundary she cannot cross unless called upon. Tip of the day ! Once you have mastered about three or four commands. Try doing a combination of them in a row. What this does is create a path for your dog to not only focus on one command area a time. It will get their brain focusing and achieving their next goal. Dog training should be fun and challenging! That is why we went to our local home depot for an out and about training session. We played a fun game of follow the leader. In this drill one dog leads while the other follow behind. If at any point the leader decides to give the sit command, like Zuzu's owner did here, then the rest follow. This allow us to practice a nice loose leash walk while also incorporating a new environment and different distractions, like shopping carts! Even in new environments our dogs should have the same manners as at home.
