On November 27 the Threatened Species Recovery Hub, a national research initiative supported through the National Environmental Science Program (NESP), is launching the Threatened Bird Index (TBX) in Brisbane.
This unique index includes a comprehensive integration of data from hundreds of collaborators towards assessing threatened bird population trends in Australia.
Speakers for the launch include:
- The Honorable Leanne Enoch, MP, Queensland Government Minister for Environment
- Dr Sally Box, Threatened Species Commissioner
- Darren Grover, Head of Living Ecosystems, World Wildlife Fund-Australia
- Professor Hugh Possingham, Chief Scientist of the Nature Conservancy and Threatened Species Recovery Hub Project Leader, University of Queensland
- Dr Elisa Bayraktarov, Research Scientist and Threatened Species Index project coordinator
So why is this relevant to Save the Gouldian Fund? Well its because the Gouldian Finch annual waterhole counts that we have been collecting through STGF and with great support from many volunteers is one of the data sets integrated through the TBX. Dr Elisa Bayraktarov is the UQ researcher we have collaborated with to analyse our Gouldian counts. In a recent email to me Elisa says "heaps of thanks for the data provided on the Gouldians. It’s an important component of the index and we would love to keep in touch with the team of Saving the Gouldian Fund!"
We will continue to work with Elisa and her team in NESP Threatened Species Hub as we continue to assemble data on the Gouldian populations around Wyndham. Your support of STGF helps us do that.
