At Ruby's Home for Good, we bring together kids who have experienced trauma or hardship with horses who have experienced trauma or hardship.

One of the most common comments we hear from the youth participants is that their horse partner is "just like me".

With this horse, they find a connection, a kinship. Together, they create a relationship that is most importantly SAFE - one where they each feel heard, understood, and valued. One that might be different from other relationships in their lives.

Happy National Horse Protection Day! Today and everyday, we advocate on behalf of horses like our Ruby - horses that have been mistreated, uncared for, and even at risk of slaughter. We teach our participants and community members about horses needs and capacities so that in everything we do, we do right by them. In this way, we truly believe we are Better Together.

I love creating with wool! I have been spinning, crocheting, and knitting for over 18 years. I have run the gamut with wool. I first started dyeing with food coloring and Kool-Aid packets. Horses are incredibly sensitive 🌟 intuitive 🌟social 🌟and relationship seeking 🌟animals.

By learning about the horses' needs and how to create safe, meaningful connections with them, our veteran and youth participants learn about their own needs and how to improve their own mental and emotional health. 💓

They practice skills that lead to deeper and more meaningful relationships with others. 💞

Through thoughtful interactions, Ruby teaches our veteran and youth participants about the importance of feeling SAFE.

Together, they learn that safety is not just the absence of physical harm. It’s about feeling understood, listened to, considered. It’s about having your needs met. Being able to express your needs, and being believed when you do so. It’s about being cared for, and accepting that care.

Safety is a critical aspect of our mental, emotional, and physical health. Without it, we face countless challenges and struggles.

Ruby's Home for Good is proud and grateful to have the support of the MCCFoundation TX for our Wellness with Horses program! Together, we are making a difference for veterans, their families, and youth in our community.

This impactful grant funds opportunities for healing and growth for those impacted by trauma. Our unique program brings horses and people together to create safe and trusting relationships - relationships that help us overcome difficulties and create a brighter future.
