A sad tale.
Oskar, a 4 month old mini, was surrendered by his family when he lost the use of his back legs. They didn't have the funds to run diagnostic testing to determine why this happened. He was purchased from a breeder on Craigslist who blamed them for hurting him. After x-rays and a very expensive MRI ($4K), he was found to have white matter disease. It is a rare genetic condition, never before reported in a schnauzer. The disease has no cure and was spreading up his cervical spine and the neurologist explained that he soon would not be able to breath as it would affect his diaphragm. We try to save them all, but unfortunately for this sweet happy little guy, there was nothing that could be done. RIP Oskar 🌈

Hi I'm Milo, a male 14 year old, 15 lb Miniature Schnauzer who is currently at the Palm Valley Animal Society in Edinburg, TX. My former owners took me to the shelter and asked that I be euthanized (doesn't sound good). But the good folks here said no, I was a healthy senior boy and they asked SRT to find me a retirement home. I'm really no trouble and like spending my days napping. This little guy is ready for adoption. He's crate reactive, but is friendly with humans and other dogs. Although reported as crate reactive, he slept quietly in his crate overnight and joined his foster pups outside for playtime this am. He needs a foster until his forever home is found. Very pregnant momma dog was dumped and luckily was found and then she had 4 little ones. 3 girls and 1 boy. They are with a temporary foster in San Benito (down in the Rio Grande Valley) and need a foster until they are old enough to be adopted. Pippy Update. This little girl had her final surgery on 6/6 and is doing great. She's up walking and eating and resting. She will be recovering from her surgery for 6-8 weeks and will then be ready for adoption. She's about a year old and weighs 7 lbs. She's getting some extra groceries to put on a little weight. Remember Kohl (12 yrs/12 lbs)? He was found stabbed and bruised at Kohl’s in Laredo. He was suffering with a fever from tick disease. He had all his rotten teeth removed, was neutered and had a bladder infection. He is all fixed up and thriving in his foster home. Here he is demanding his dinner.
