A difficult day for several members of our animal cruelty investigations team including our partners @HarrisCountyPrecinct1 after a devastating house fire with multiple pets kept in outdoor kennels. ⚠️Cruelty Caught on Camera⚠️ The Houston SPCA is searching for the person who threw a lab mix puppy off a third-story apartment balcony on Tuesday after it was captured on a security camera. Thankfully, the puppy landed onto the bushes below and limped away before one of our cruelty investigators brought her back to campus for veterinary exams and care. Equine Safe & Dry

While caring for the nearly 1,000 animals on their Campus for All Animals, the Houston SPCA was also preparing for Beryl on Sunday by moving 18 rescued horses over to their Equine Rehabilitation Center. A total of 24 horses, including two Clydesdales, 3 pigs, 12 chickens and a peacock are all now safely resting on their campus to ride out this storm.

Chimney Swifts typically stay in their nesting sites until late summer to early fall, after which they will migrate to South America. 🚨 Animal Cruelty Investigation: Kitten Set on Fire🚨 Early this morning, Houston SPCA’s animal ambulance responded to a heartbreaking scene. Witnesses reported seeing a kitten deliberately set on fire. The kitten was brought to the Houston SPCA Animal Hospital for care, but due to the severity of her injuries, she was humanely euthanized. The Houston SPCA Animal Cruelty Investigators and their law enforcement partners Harris County Constable Precinct 1, discovered that the suspects lived in a home with other animals. Concerned for their safety, Precinct 1 obtained a civil seizure warrant to seize any animals on the property. Nine animals, including seven puppies, were found in deplorable conditions in the backyard of the residence, locked in cages without access to water or food. These animals are now in the care of the Houston SPCA, where they are receiving the medical attention and care they desperately need. We urge our community to stay vigilant and report any signs of animal cruelty. Pileated Woodpecker

We've been privileged to care for three Pileated Woodpecker chicks after they were found fallen from their nest. We're excited to share pictures and videos of their journey from nestlings to fledglings as they grow under our watchful eye. These beautiful birds will remain in our care until they're ready to be released back into the wild. Did you know? Pileated Woodpeckers are the largest woodpecker species in North America, with striking red crests and distinctive drumming sounds that echo through the forest. Petey the piglet runs

We recently rescued a puppy in partnership with @Precinct1Constable, after a man was caught on camera violently hitting and kicking the puppy inside a cell phone store.
