🌿 Adoption Spotlight: Vicki & Her Sulcata Tortoises 🌿

Vicki, a dedicated volunteer and longtime supporter of the Houston SPCA, has opened her heart and home to two special Sulcata tortoises—Shortie and Annie. Shortie is the larger tortoise, while Annie is the smaller one, named in honor of Vicki's beloved daughter, Tina Anne, who passed away earlier last year. The connection is even more touching, as Tina was #29 out of 66 baby tortoises, and her birthday falls on the 29th. Annie was adopted on Vicki and Larry's wedding anniversary, adding another layer of love and remembrance to her journey.

Vicki’s incredible dedication doesn’t stop at adopting these wonderful creatures. After volunteering with the Houston SPCA for two years, she transitioned to the wildlife center, where she has been making a difference for the past 13 years. Despite the heartbreaking losses in her life, Vicki continues to share her love and compassion with both animals and the community.

We are so grateful to Vicki for everything she does, and we’re honored that her tortoises are now a part of our family. 🐢❤️

🐾 Adoption Spotlight: Banzai 🐾

Banzai’s journey began when he was rescued by our ambulance team and placed in the loving care of a foster home. Now named Mushu, he’s thriving in his forever home! His new adopter shared:

"I was at the dog park and noticed Mushu playing with two dogs so well. I started talking to the owner, and we discovered she was the foster parent before I adopted him from the Houston SPCA. I’m so glad to have adopted from the Houston SPCA and even happier to know he was loved in his foster home. Shout out to Kathryn and the Houston SPCA for taking care of my Mushu baby until I was ready for a dog!"

Stories like Mushu’s remind us how impactful fostering and adoption can be. 💕 Thank you to Kathryn and all our fosters for helping pets find their way home!

❄️ With freezing temperatures approaching, it’s crucial to keep your pets safe and warm indoors.

Lola was found emaciated and chained to a junk car on someone’s property after being abandoned. Thankfully, Lola is now in our care, receiving the treatment she needs to recover.

As temperatures drop, remember: pets rely on us for protection. Bring them inside where it’s warm and safe. If you see an animal left out in the cold, speak up—report it to our animal cruelty hotline at 713-869-7722.

Together, we can ensure no pet suffers in the freezing weather. 🐾

A heartbreaking incident involving a Brazoria County Deputy and a U.S. Marshal K9. 💔
During a tragic event that claimed the life of Deputy Jesus "Jesse" Vargas, Rocky, a 1-year-old Belgian Malinois K9, played a critical role in locating the suspect during a six-hour manhunt. Rocky courageously leaped into a dumpster where the suspect was hiding, despite the danger. The suspect fired upon Rocky, hitting him twice, but thanks to his backup, the suspect was neutralized.

Rocky was transported to Westbury Animal Hospital in Southwest Houston, where he received lifesaving care. Thank you, Westbury Animal Hospital - Compassionate Care and Commitment 24 hrs a Day, for your incredible work. Rocky is stable and expected to survive his injuries.

Our deepest condolences to the Vargas family, and we salute Rocky’s incredible bravery. 🖤💙🐾

🌟 Adoption Spotlight: Blue 🌟

Meet Blue (formerly Falcor), who was adopted in July of 2024. Blue has quickly become a beloved member of the family, and he has a special habit of sleeping on his back, always making himself at home in the most relaxed way possible.

His adopter David has a tradition of taking his four dogs to the groomers every Thursday, where they always pose for adorable group photos. The other three dogs welcomed Blue into the pack with open paws, making sure he felt right at home.

This Halloween, David’s group of dogs entered the prison photo into a costume contest and took home first place! 🏆 It’s clear that Blue is not just a lucky dog to have found his forever home with David, but also that he’s living the dream life with his new family.

Today is National Dress Your Pet Day, and it’s the perfect time to celebrate the fun and love that pets like Blue bring to our lives. David’s adorable weekly photoshoots with his four dogs show how much joy dressing up your pets can bring!

We’re so happy to see Blue thriving and are thankful to David for giving him a chance to shine. 🐾💙

If you’re looking to bring a loving companion into your home, consider adopting today! Many wonderful pets like Blue are waiting for their second chance at a happy life.

🌟 Adoption Spotlight: Daisy Duke & Maksy! 🌟

Meet Daisy Duke and Maksy, two amazing dogs with a special bond to the Houston SPCA. 🐾

Daisy was adopted just last month and is already thriving in her forever home, while Maksy has been a cherished family member for 8 wonderful years! ❤️ Her name honors all the pups who’ve been part of the family—Maggie, Annabelle, Kenny, Scooter, and Dusty (she took the "Y" from Dusty's name)—all adopted from the Houston SPCA. 🐶

Adoption truly changes lives, and we’re so grateful to see Daisy and Maksy living their best lives thanks to a loving family. 🏡

Our Story

Established in 1924, the Houston SPCA’s Campus For All Animals serves as the leading animal protection and rescue organizations in the country with the ability to care for the broadest range of animal species, types of abuse and injury, and magnitude of large-scale, multiple-animal cases – all in one location. They provide rescue and care for companion animals, horses and farm animals, and exotics while Houston SPCA’s Wildlife Center of Texas receives over 11,000 wild animals comprising over 360 species each year. The Houston SPCA impacts more than 50,000 animals each year, from owner-surrendered pets to found, rescued and displaced animals. We’re here to help animals in need—no matter how they get here.
