Bhoo was a little out of control today during our agility class becuase we got to play in the big outdoor arena. She attends agility with her BFF Laz. Who was the distraction? lol

Last night, Bhoo and her Best Friend Laz had a swimming lesson. I am still determining if they will be into dock diving, but it is a big experience for them to learn about water and swimming. They both were in the water and swimming around. It was a ton of fun!

Having a Doberman means you likely have a high-performance dog. Simply becuase of their temperament and intense environmental awareness. So what do I do every week to help her feel calm out in the busy human world? We walk around one of the busiest parks in Denver. Why? Becuase there are so many weird and wonderful things to learn to ignore. Geese, all types of bikes, scooters, skateboarders, and roller skaters. Dogs, dogs, and more dogs that we get to practice passing by while healing while sitting while practicing our down.

We went on this walk early this morning. However, this park does have a large tree canopy for shade throughout most of the walking paths. We ended our 3-mile walk with a dip in Denver's oldest farmers' ditch, and then we worked on our obedience and recall on the long lead under the shade of a couple of big trees.

She is currently sound asleep. Love our Girl

Bhoo, and Susan Oviatt-Harris, our Obedience Instructor. Bhoo is doing great! We are getting ready to start competitions in the Fall/Winter for our Novice Obedience title.

Bhoo is two now. This is my first time training one of my Dobermans to compete in Obedience and Agility, and I hope we can make it to a scent trial sometime soon.

I have learned how much I do not know about training dogs, and Bhoo is only as good as I am. Bhoo says, "She can wait for me to figure it all out as long as the treats keep coming." LOL!

I highly recommend getting your Doberman involved in a dog sport. Learning new stuff is good for humans, too! There are so many to choose from. Obedience, Agility, Barn Hunt, Fast CAT, Scent work, Dock Diving.

Wow! We just hosted Poesia Doberman's current Spring Break litter of six 8-week-old Doberman puppies. They are Bhoo's half-siblings.

Alexandria and her husband drove 12 hours from Boise, ID, to Denver, CO, so one of the nation's top ear-cropping vets could work her magic on these cutie pies. (the same vet that cropped Bhoo's ears)

I also wanted to add that preservation breeders work their butts off to deliver puppies that are stable, healthy, and in enriched environments, plus crate and potty trained before they join your home. Preservation Breeders work hard to better the breed with their breeding programs. This includes physical, temperament, and health.

We had a wonderfully calm and rainy spring day to visit Cheesman Park. This park is on a big hill, and on a clear day, you can see the whole front range. It was also a 1900s cemetery. A local businessman had a contract with the city to move all the bodies to another location, and of course, as you can imagine, many were left behind. It is a popular stop on the Halloween spooky tours. It has some very magical forest-like areas on the trail.

What are your Dobermans' favorite toys to play with?
Bhoo's idea is to have a great play session with the flirt pole. The kill part is her favorite part. She mostly lays on the floor with the flirt pole. She likes me just sitting with her. It is her game, so we play according to her rules.

Today, after trying many different agility trainers, we found our agility home with Melanie. We can use a lovely indoor building on very hot or cold days. The outdoor agility arena is amazing, and I will take a picture next time. Bhoo will be 2 years old in another month. I can see how all my training to date is beginning to pay off as the young dog she has been transitioning to as an adult. I see more of her personality every day. She was so cute today as we practiced using targets; when she did not understand what I wanted, she would do her rollover trick!!! Bhoo's feedback that she needs clarification from Mom needs clarification.

Here is an update on how our weekend at the Dog Show went. Bhoo had a rough two days. Today, we got it together and received a qualifying score of 80 out of 100 points. This is our second qualifying score, aka a leg. I need three total legs for my first Novice Rally Obedience title. This is very fun! Bhoo is currently recovering from her laparoscopic spay and gastropexy. We are two days post-surgery, and she is recovering nicely.

I am making this post to recommend the laparoscopic process. The incision is minimal. They only remove the ovaries, not the uterus. For those new to Dobermans, the deep-chested breeds are susceptible to a stomach condition called Bloat. It is a deadly condition, and the Gastropexy connects the stomach to the dog's sides. If they bloat it is very unlikely you will get the rotation of the stomach that can kill them very quickly.

There is a big range in the prices. I contacted 5 vet practices offering the service and got $1400-$10,000 to do both procedures. If you have questions, I am happy to answer them.

I also wanted to share the practice that performed Bhoo's procedure. Parker Center Animal Clinic aka (PCAC) did a great job communicating with me before, during, and after the surgery. If you opt for the Pamper Pet Package, They send you the normal daily updates, but the Pamper package includes pictures. They gave her a Kong-branded teddy bear when she arrived. She also came home in a Medical Body Suit. No cone heads if we can avoid it.
