🐾 Boomer’s Update: Checking In from Winter Training Camp! 🐾 We’ve just received an exciting update from Boomer at his winter training camp! Back in early December, Boomer set off to spend his holidays focusing on top-notch training and care. He would like everyone to know he is doing well, progressing with positive reinforcement and obedience. He even sent us a clip that shows off his skills! This distinguished gentleman loves to go on walks, prefers charcuterie delicacies over regular dog treats, and loves sniffing people and other dogs. He is selective when it comes to pets from strangers, and is working on introductions, especially with other male dogs. Boomer comfortably wears a muzzle on his walks for his safety and others, and that’s perfectly okay! We can’t wait for more updates from Boomer’s vacation, and expect his confidence to grow through training!

Kip Conquering the Water Treadmill!

🐾 Kip Update: Strides to Strength! 🐾 Every rescue dog has a story, and Kip is no exception. Two weeks ago, Kip came to HCCC after getting hit by a car. Today he’s getting the care he deserves. Kip is making great progress— last week he went for his first PT visit. Look at him conquering the water therapy treadmill! He was quite vocal about it (he’s a typical Chow and generally has an opinion on everything). Afterwards, he walked through the lobby to the car. He happily walks on leash three times a day and will move to longer walks next week. His confidence is growing each day! Kip has PT every week until the end of the year, then his vet will re-assess and make a decision about surgery. If you recall, he has multiple fractures in his back legs and what we believe is a capital hip fracture, serious injuries that require extensive orthopedic surgery. It’s going to take time and effort, but we’re committed. And we want you to be part of his journey. In Loving Memory of Finnegan ❤️ When Finnegan came to us, all he had was a small box and a heart full of uncertainty. We told him we loved him from the start, but he wasn’t ready to believe it—until one day, he did. He showed us what was in that box: a smile that shone like sunlight ☀️ and a heart full of moonlight 🌙. This morning, our sweet boy didn’t wake up, leaving a hole in our hearts that will never heal 💔. We will treasure him always, knowing he was a Very Good Boy. Warm summer sun, Shine kindly here. Imagine a sweet Chow abandoned alone in a hotel parking lot with only a bag of food and no collar. After her owners drove away according to some witnesses, she stayed behind, waiting and hoping they would return, but BARC arrived before we could. She was then tagged and we we’re able to get her. When Sophia found her, Bon bon was so distressed that she cried and wouldn’t leave the spot, still waiting for her owners to come back. Thanks to Sophia’s urgent post and the caring help of her foster dad, Harrison, we were able to rescue Bon Bon—thanks to the hundreds of people who shared her story! Life moves pretty fast—don’t blink or you might miss Laquinta! This sweet 1-year-old, weighing 45 pounds, has come a long way and is ready to start a new chapter. But since her last update, Lala is ready to turn the page and start a new chapter—she’s officially available for adoption! (📍Magnolia, TX) For those unfamiliar with her story, Lala came to us from the New Braunfels shelter, carrying the marks of her past—severe hair loss on her back, likely caused by chemical burns. Despite it all, she remains incredibly gentle and loving. We’ve learned she’s afraid of thunder, but her little thunder jacket helps calm her fears. Water on her back still brings tears to her eyes, a painful reminder of the trauma she’s survived. Yet through it all, Lala has shown nothing but love and patience, thanks to the incredible care of her Super Foster Mom, Dawn! Her hair has grown back beautifully, a symbol of her strength. Lala is very people-oriented, always eager to be close to someone who will finally give her the love she deserves. She’s also a big fan of saying hello and gets especially excited during mealtime—her favorite part of the day! Louise had stopped eating, and we quickly learned that her kidney values were dangerously high. Behind the scenes at the vet, Louise is receiving IV fluids. We’re anxiously waiting for her kidney values to stabilize, hoping and praying that there aren’t any other underlying issues complicating her recovery.
