We all should know our A.B.C.'s but when we are talking about Dog Training we are talking about The Antecedent, The Behavior, and The Consequence. By applying this basic formula to any given behavior we see our dogs exhibiting, we can narrow down the exact causes and the primary reinforcers behind them. In doing so, we can give ourselves the best opportunity to reshape that behavior and see it increase or decrease depending on what our goals are at the time. NEW Video format is now available for those platforms that support it.

Guess who is staying over this weekend!!
Slummmmmberrr partyyyyyyy with Chase!
Had a blast hanging with Milo! She’s the cutest! Her mom is already a really awesome trainer so she makes it look easy!!
Mittens the Doberman was burnt toast at the end of our session! Even though he’s only around 7 mo. this big kiddo has to walk through a super crowded part of Houston with a lot of reactive dogs, so we were keeping the brain busy so we don’t learn those skills either!
Check out this awesome blog post from our friend Morgan's Pawsitive Pup Training about the benefits of puppy training!
Have you and your family gotten a new puppy? Do you have an older puppy who never seemed to figure out how to act properly?
Throwback to practicing getting the mail without barking at all these loud dogs nearby!

Timmy was super cute with the wind blowing the other day!
This is Navi! Met and worked with this absolutely adorable rottie mix! She was a scooped up stray puppy at only around a week old! Mom has done an awesome job taking care of this pup but unfortunately Navi is pretty defensive of her favorite food bowl, so we are working on that primarily while also building strong communication and impulse control skills at the same time! I’m sure this week of practice and adjustments will go along way! See you soon!
⚡️ NEW PAWDCAST EPISODE ⚡️
“With a quick breakdown of the broad stages of puppy development, we are afforded some insight into why a puppy might be choosing to engage, or not engage with a particular situation or behavior and what that looks like. By being aware of what the puppy is both physically ad psychologically capable of you can be sure that your training plan and management strategies are suitably adjusted according to your puppies needs.”

So excited to get to work with Mr.Timmy here! 1y/o Yorker with lightning fast paws used to expertly jump and swat at things excitedly! Hopefully we can learn some better manners so he can get EVEN MORE attention but with those feetsies on the ground!!
Milo! Milo could be a better big brother for his little sister Millie so we were working on that! He’s very handsome himself though!
If you’re handsome and you know it..you’re probably Beans!
I mean look at that face! Is there any doubt in anyones mind at this point??
Asher was flying through the practice drills today! Such a super cute Pomsky that has the pipes to prove his heritage. Fluent in Husky, trying to show Asher there are other ways to communicate than just bark talking is just the icing on our obedience training!
Rocky was a blast to meet and work with in our first session! Looking forward to the laughs this one is going to bring for sure!
Met up with lil’miss Gwen today for our first session! She was a total smarty pants!
⚡️New Pawdcast Episode!⚡️
In episode 4 I talk a little about how anxiety is a common root cause for a lot of problem behaviors and the first step towards changing those behaviors is acknowledging what role anxiety is playing and how even small adjustments can make a difference after taking that time.

Henry was very agreeable with the terms of our agreement. Snaccos for friendship.
Do you think he will be disappointed when I alter the deal and add in some other snacco requirements next week?
Working on “wait”-ing at the door for some desensitizing! By calmly encouraging the alternative option of NOT running out of the open door, we can show our pups that they don’t HAVE to run out just because the door is open and that it may be more rewarding to remain with you. Make sure to have a purposeful permission word like “free” or “let’s go” to use so that they don’t have to guess when they are allowed to cross, they need only wait for your consistent cue!
Do you make your dogs wait at the front door/back door/garage door?
Is he goofy? Or cute? Or both? Yes, definitely both!

Third session with the new Sheriff in town! Still a little uncomfortable but still learning as well! Not food motivated so using play and praise as our driver while still encouraging impulse control with wait/take it and utilizing that focus for some extra sit/down reps! But look how proud he was of that heckin great job!! #trainyourdog #forcefreetraining #fearfreetraining #toydrive #notfoodmotivated
Beans was absolutely cruising…into some serious nap time after walking with me, then mom, then me AGAIN! Something graceful about this AussieXL trotting along though! Check out @beanstheaussie for more shenanigans from Beans!

Some of the leash exercises I was doing in my first sessions with Sheriff! He was on a prong collar that was making him very anxious in conjunction with what mom felt was necessary leash pressure because of his anxiety. That’s a feedback loop of energy and anxiety, so right away I had mom switch him on to a slip across the head and on arm. He was still nervous about interacting with me so I had mom walk with him and I joined them while holding the leash. Soon enough he was walking with me and by the end he was fully in my arms with those ears in cute mode. Mom suggested he would react to people or dogs but we were around both without more than a couple disapproving huffs that we U-turned out of. (U-turns being what we are practicing here in perpetration of further exposure to triggers!) Because of his potential reactivity I wanted to immediately start building strong positive eye contact when he was comfortable with it to help our relationship strengthen and to create a habit in the future naturally implying less visual fixation on triggers in the future! I’ll see Sheriff again soon! Stay tuned for more progress! #trainyourdog #forcefreetraining #cpdtka #limadogtraining #dogsofhouston
Logan is a very engaged #kingcharlescavalier that’s ready to hit the drills! Most people may be familiar with the “puppy push-up” where we ask our kiddos to perform a mix of sits and downs repetitively, throwing in a touch or stand at times. In the video you notice that I’m exclusively using our non verbal hand cues to swap positions. Dogs engage with the world first with their nose, then eyes, then ears. For training purposes, that means if the dog isn’t watching me, I am at best engaging the least impactful sense. By utilizing consistent and clear non-verbal cues in our training, we continually reinforce eye contact as a foundation of our communication. I always tell clients that the more time our pup is focused on and looking at us, the less time they are potentially engaging with surrounding environments negatively. This also ideally gives us more opportunities to guide how they interact with the world and form better habits more quickly. I do throw in an entirely verbal cue at the end, you know, just to make sure he was really listening! Do you like to use hand signals when training with your pups? #cpdtka #fearfreetraining #kingcharlescavalierspaniel #dogsofhouston #trainyourdog #puppypushups
Dog training isn’t about getting things right or wrong! It’s about always getting better, forming better habits, understanding your dog and yourself better, and having a better relationship. If you find yourself frustrated, your pup is likely frustrated too! Sometimes the best way to make forward progress is to slow down, or perhaps take a step back before proceeding forward once again. Feel free to comment and share a time you found yourself frustrated during the training process! #takeabreak #limadogtraining #cpdtka #trainyourdog #fearfreetraining

It’s always hilarious to see these two romp around the house together! They definitely have a unique bond! Navigating training situations with multiple dogs can be challenging! Giving each dog their own time to learn and understand new or familiar concepts can go a long way to see them handle those very same concepts as a group better in the future!! #cockerspaniel #cockerspanielsofinstagram #cpdtka #fearfreetraining #trainyourdog

When we are training dogs, we are building habits that eventually become behavior! Repetitive & consistent success means faster habit forming and therefore a more straightforward training process, in theory. If you find yourself frustrated or your dog failing over and over, maybe the situation is too tough for you both and breaking whatever our goal was down into smaller steps and trying to achieve those incrementally will likely be better! Dogs are motivated by success and your excitement, if you are both frustrated, you won’t be sweating yourself up for success! Consider the above tips before coming back with a new plan forward! #cpdtka #fearfree #limadogtraining #trainyourdog #dogsofhouston #dogsofinstagram
