Becky Brocato - Watercolorist

Becky Brocato - Watercolorist I am a watercolorist working in a realistic style. I like exploring a variety of subjects, using a limited palette for maximum color harmony.

I am a Signature Member of Watercolor Art Society-Houston. Watercolor has always been my favorite medium. It is challenging but so satisfying when it all comes together as a finished painting. My favorite subjects are portraits (people and pets), travel/landscapes and florals. Almost all my paintings are from photos that I take myself or from clients who request a commissioned painting. Contact me

if you have a favorite photo of a loved one, a pet, or a beautiful travel image that you think might make a great watercolor painting! I would be happy to give you an estimate.

After a bit of a hiatus from painting, I'm happy to be wielding a brush again. I hope this lovely portrait will be enjoyed for many years to come. Thank you, Alvin, for trusting me to capture this very special moment while you and Sharon were vacationing in Venice. I loved working on this one, for sure! And Happy Anniversary!

This is one of my favorite watercolor commissions, of course, because it is of my little grandson among the Texas wildflowers. I had taken a few photos for reference and this painting was composed using a couple of different images; one for the image of Ethan and one for the background and all the wildflowers. I would love to create a family heirloom painting of your little one, so direct message me if you or someone you know might be interested.

I finally get to post this recent painting commission. It was a Christmas gift, so I had to wait until it was opened. The adult children of Hugh Jackson commissioned it a few months ago, and they all loved it! Here is what Hugh’s daughter, Lauren Oblath, had to say: “My siblings and I were so excited to have this painting done for our dad. He does not have the t-bird anymore, but to say ‘she’ left a mark on us all would be an understatement. Our dad loved the painting and was so touched that we had Becky do this, as he has admired Becky’s work for some time.”
Thank you, Lauren, for giving me the opportunity to paint this fabulous classic Thunderbird in a wonderful Texas landscape. I so enjoyed creating this family heirloom for your dad.

This painting, "Into the Storm, Venice", was awarded an Honorable Mention at the September 2016 monthly exhibit at Watercolor Art Society-Houston.
FYI: I just completed and delivered a Christmas gift commission painting, and I am so looking forward to sharing that with you after the recipient opens his gift!
If you have a favorite memory (photo) that you would love to gift someone special as an heirloom watercolor painting, I would be happy to work with you. Mother's Day and Father's Day will be here before we know it.

Sneak Peek. This is a little detail of the painting I'm working on. This little Texas toddler is my grandson running around in the wildflowers back in April. I still have a bit to do, but the finished painting will be coming soon!

Sneak Peek: Into the Storm, Venice. In progress.
I have finally gotten back to my Venice painting series. After getting sidetracked a few times since beginning this quarter sheet watercolor after the holidays, I have finally gotten a few days to paint. This is detailed but painterly, and the real challenge has been the architecture. I am really looking forward to playing in the water! Reflections, ripples, cool blues. Stay tuned!

The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is fast approaching, and these three amigos are waiting patiently for all the action. This original watercolor, painted by yours truly, is available for purchase, so let me know if you or someone you know might be interested. Wouldn't this look great on an HLSR committee member's wall or mantel? Please share, if you are so inclined. :-)

This is a watercolor painting that I have on display and for purchase at WASH - Watercolor Art Society Houston. This month, in addition to the monthly juried exhibit, the WAS-H Signature Members are being featured, and my painting, "Teamwork," is part of the Signature Exhibit. (I painted this using photos that I took at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo RODEOHOUSTON a few years ago in the Team Penning arena.) I hope you will stop by and see this amazing show before it closes on December 3. WAS-H is located at 1601 West Alabama at Mandell, Houston, TX 77006.

The finished paintings are all framed and on display! I am really pleased with how they turned out. They are titled Houston Sunrise I, II and III from top to bottom. As you may recall, the photos that Frank took on that beautiful morning were only a few minutes apart as the sun came up behind downtown. This view is from the Williams Tower in the Galleria area.

Here is the final completed painting of the Houston sunrise, the last of three which will hang as a group in my husbands office at work. And yes, the blue stayed true! No mud, yea!
The next step is to have them photographed and framed. I will probably make some prints of these three paintings, if any of you are interested in purchasing one or more. I might print some note cards also if there is enough interest. Just direct message me for details.

Steve Fenton was a wonderful young man, taken too soon from this world. Although I didn't know him personally, I was blessed and honored to paint this portrait of him for his sister, Chris.
Happy Birthday today in Heaven, Steve. You lived your life to the fullest, and you are remembered and loved every day.

I painted this little vacation memory from a photo that I took when we went on a great summer trip to Tennessee with John and Karen Ehlig and family many years ago. Our son, Trent, is in the middle and the Ehlig boys, David and Andrew, are on each side. We had been at the river, and the boys were in deep discussion about something important, I'm sure. They were probably wondering what was in the picnic lunch that was awaiting them around the bend of this little country road. I love this painting! It is on my gallery wall in the den, and I see it every day, and it makes me smile! The Ehligs have a print of it in their home, and I know they treasure it, also.
These slice of life, candid moments in time are some of my very favorites to paint, and you probably have a favorite photo that you are thinking of right now that would brighten your world every time you looked at it. Am I right? Please let me know if I can create a wonderful watercolor memory for you and your family. Direct message me for details!

I just put the finishing touches on this commissioned painting last night. It is titled "Coastal Calm." I delivered it today, and I'm pleased to say the client loved it. It really makes me happy when the client is so excited when the painting is revealed to them for the first time.
Let me know if you have a nice vacation photo that you would like to turn into a work of art for your home or as a nice gift for someone extra special.

I am finally able to post this commissioned painting, as it is now in the hands of a very lovely couple in Florida. I painted this from a photo that was taken by my client in the little town of Lari, Italy. It is very special because she and her husband were married there a couple of years ago! April and Robert, I just want you to know how fun this was to paint, and I hope you treasure this reminder of your Italian wedding for many years to come!
