It’s hard to believe, but the month has already flown by, and fall is fast approaching. At the Spay-Neuter Assistance Program, we’re not just preparing for the next season, but for the years ahead—with the goal of supporting one million animals and beyond through our spay and neuter services.

Make-A-Will Month serves as a season of personal reflection, reminding us not to put off important things. FreeWill's online tool offers a straightforward path to secure your wishes for the future, while fostering a deeper connection with the causes dear to your heart.

One million people have already used this resource, demonstrating that each of us has a wealth of reasons to care for the people, places, and animals we love. Instead of finding another one-in-a-million reason to delay, choose a future that is kinder to the animals in our community—and to you.

Nyra’s first visit to SNAP turned out to be quite the adventure for owner Jerica. She had brought Nyra for a Wellness Exam for her initial vaccinations, deworming, and to ask questions about Nyra receiving her spay surgery, expecting a straightforward appointment. To her delight, not only did the visit showcase SNAP’s exceptional service, but it also included an unexpected twist—
a surprise gender reveal!

Dr. Guillory, with a warm smile, shared the news that Nyra was actually male! This revelation left Jerica pleasantly astonished. It's a common surprise among kitten owners, as discerning a kitten’s gender can be quite challenging, especially if you’re not familiar with the subtle indicators.

At SNAP, we’re here to offer essential, affordable, life-saving services and, when the occasion calls for it, a touch of unexpected fun, like a mini gender reveal!

Stay tuned for an update on Nyra as we hope to see him for his neuter surgery soon!

For those of us in Houston, our recent experience of Hurricane Beryl—high winds, flooding, and days without power in this grueling Texas heat—reminded us that there are some things in life we simply can’t be prepared for. That reality makes us pause and consider addressing the concerns that we do have control over. August is National Make-A-Will Month—a perfect opportunity to make plans which align with your passion for animals. Visit the frwill.link/snap to get started.
Looking to our own future, SNAP is setting the monumental goal of reaching one million spay and neuter surgeries. Of course, one million is just our next goal post; we’re in this for the long haul as we work to ensure every animal can thrive. This month, we invite you to join our mission in a unique way. Don't end up with your hands full—spay and neuter your pets to avoid unexpected litters like these eight adorable kittens. From ages ranging 8-6 weeks old, they've received their deworming and/or vaccinations at their wellness appointment, and now their owner is committed to helping find each one a loving home. We hope to ensure their future by scheduling spay and neuter surgeries for all kittens when they reach their surgery safe weight of 4lbs!

Here are five important 4th of July pet safety tips to ensure your furry friends stay safe and happy during the celebrations:

Keep Pets Indoors: The loud noises from fireworks can frighten pets and cause them to run away. Keep your pets indoors in a quiet, secure room where they feel safe. Close windows and curtains to minimize noise and bright flashes.

Ensure Identification: Make sure your pets are wearing collars with up-to-date identification tags. Ensure microchip information is up to date. In case they do escape, this will increase the chances of them being returned to you quickly.

Avoid Fireworks Exposure: Keep pets away from fireworks, even if they are not lit yet. Fireworks contain chemicals that can be toxic if ingested, and the loud noises can be extremely stressful for pets.

Create a Safe Space: Set up a comfortable and secure space for your pets indoors where they can retreat if they feel scared. Provide familiar bedding, toys, and comforting items to help them feel secure.

Monitor Food and Drinks: Many festive foods and drinks can be harmful to pets. Keep them away from alcoholic beverages, human food (especially those toxic to pets like chocolate and onions), and items sweetened with xylitol.

By following these tips, you can help ensure that your pets have a safe and stress-free 4th of July celebration!

Remember, it’s important to microchip your pets and keep their information updated. Microchipping is quick and easy, and it can determine whether you are reunited with your pet if they become lost. When you have your pet microchipped at SNAP, their ID number and your contact information are automatically registered at no additional cost. To schedule your pet’s appointment, visit snapus.org.

In the outskirts of a bustling Walmart parking lot, a crate housed a litter of puppies, their tiny forms nestled together. Among them lay one puppy, perhaps a bit more solitary than the rest. As Margaret and her husband strolled by, their attention was drawn to this lone pup. After completing their shopping, the Balderas family returned to their car, only to be halted by a woman who approached them with a request to take the puppy explaining that it was a product of her own dog’s unceasing litters. Otherwise, she would leave the pup at the Walmart parking lot hoping the pup would be picked up or possibly dropped off at a shelter.

The Balderas family couldn’t bear the idea of leaving the pup to an uncertain fate... READ MORE snapus.org/jack/
