Tough conditions and wet birds made for a difficult Championship in Michigan. Rip placed 3rd in a 20 dog stake of Grand Open Limited All Age. He had an intelligent application of the course, maintained his composure, and had 3 stylish finds. Congratulations to all placing dogs, trainers, owners and handlers!

2024 Southern Open Brittany Grand Open Limited Gun Dog “Southern Showdown” at Showtime Plantation - Bronwood, GA

We traveled to Showtime to run for the day and the grounds and trial are worth the trip. From piney woods to big crop fields you can really separate the dogs. I ran Rip and Finn. Two young dogs on our string and they both showed large progress in handling the terrain in Georgia, but also their inexperience with it. It was great experience for both of them and myself. We continue to see progress in their ability to handle new grounds and the birds they hold.

It was an absolute pleasure scouting for Tom. I couldn’t be happier for our good friends Jack, Tara, and Crystal Alexander. Kimber is one hell of a bird dog (that we didn’t lose😂). We are proud to have some of her lineage as up and coming dogs on our string today.

This fall was our first professional season training and trialing. The dogs have bought into the training program, and are showing progress towards becoming extremely competitive trial dogs. To say we are excited about their future success is a massive understatement.

We actively trialed 4 dogs in adult stakes this fall. All 4 qualified for Nationals with 3 of the 4 winning major stakes (13+starters).

Our juvenile group was equally impressive. We put down 5 different dogs in Derby and Puppy stakes with 2 of them winning open derby and puppy, and all 5 placing in nearly every stake they were put in.

We can’t thank our clients who have put their trust in our program enough. Your support keeps us striving to put down the best dogs no matter the competition or venue.

Thank you to our mentors who have guided us through this new venture, and have become close friends. Without you we wouldn’t be where we are today.

Training dogs full time is easily the most rewarding thing we have ever done. The long hours, time on the road, and small infractions of competition fade away when everything comes together and you ride up to a dog on point standing with all the intensity and style you could ask for.

We are looking forward to heading south for the winter to continue training and trialing.
We can’t wait to see what 2024 has in store for us!

Reload ran in the first brace of the afternoon on course 1. A young 2 year old on the ground in Booneville for the first time. He was braced with last years (and soon to be this years) National Champion. He was animated and snappy as he made his way through the course with a nice forward race that was covering much of the grounds. The thick cover did not slow him down. As we pushed through lick creek and out into the open fields both dogs hung to the left of the course along a wood edge. As the dogs moved through a cut and along a feed strip Rocky swung around and established point as Reload kept on going past him. About 40 yards past his brace mate he turned around as he knew he had made an error. We let the other handler know that her dog was standing and elected to pick Reload up for not honoring his brace mate. An unfortunate error at that level that likely was not seen by the judges. That said with his future development in mind the decision to pick him up was an easy one. As he continues to gain experience and confidence in himself he will be a tough competitor in gun dog stakes. He is just shy of finishing his FC title. Another young dog on the string that will be one to watch in the future.

Finn was in the second brace of the morning on course 2. Finn broke away in his typical break neck speed to the front. He was making some really nice shooting dog casts out in front of us as we made our way through the course. He was hitting bird likely areas and working the wind properly, but neither he nor his brace-mate were coming up with finds in those areas. As we rounded the horse shoe he made a cast along a wooded edge to the left of the course and stopped on point. Though it looked to be a less than ideal place for a bird to be we worked the situation and moved him on without producing a bird. He continued on to the front and shortened up to more of a gun dog range. As we were exiting Parrish field with only a few minutes left I swung him to the outside edge of the field along an old road. As he worked down the line he stopped on point at some heavy brush piles. We worked the find hoping we could produce a bird on the relocation. We could not get a bird located as time expired.
I’m incredibly proud of the progress Finn has made since he arrived with us. He was one of the first dogs that came to us for training and he has bought into every step of the process along the way. From being a broke derby, to qualifying for the National in a stake where he was handled by his owners, he has continued to get better and better. Stewart ran in the 2nd brace of the Derby as the bottom dog on course 2. He broke away to the right edge of the course and carried it to the chute but ended up coming back and working the left edge of the breakaway as well. We collected him and pushed him to the front where he showed his stylish gait and athleticism as he continued through the course with a strong forward race. He ended up establishing point on some old scent near the old steel bridge and we moved him on after an attempt to flush. As we moved toward the horseshoe we saw a hawk get up in front of us and shortly after Stewart established point close to where we had seen the hawk. He had beautiful style and intensity, but we saw the pile of feathers as we walked up to the brush he was standing near. We moved him on again and he was making some nice forward casts and handling kindly for us. As we exited the horseshoe we threw him to the right edge of Hiers field. He carried the right edge beautifully. As we sung him around he met us to the front where the judges called time. Unfortunate to not get a bird pointed for this young derby at just 16 months of age. Stewart is an exciting dog to put on the ground, and will be one to watch as he continues to gain confidence and experience.

Rip ran in the 2nd brace of the afternoon on course 2. The breakaway showed both dogs taking off through the chute and then coming back to hunt the left edge of the breakaway. Rip tucked himself into some thick cover at the wood edge and our scout called point. After some flushing attempts and a short relocation we decided to get out of that heavy cover and move on as it was very unlikely that we were going to produce a bird out of it. We moved to catch the front at a dead run which took some doing. Rip lives to catch the front and did so with ease after a few minutes. At the old metal bridge he started to make a nice cast down a feed strip and locked up on point with style and intensity. We worked the single that was out in the sun feeding and all was in order as we made our way to catch the front again. As we made our way to the horseshoe Rip worked his way down another feed strip off to the right of the course and stopped on point with a the wind in his face. I worked the cover in front of him as I saw fit without producing any birds. I decided to relocate him hoping he would work the wind and get us closer to the birds that may have either been there earlier or were on the run. Unfortunately he never reestablished point and on our second non productive we thanked the judges for their time.
I was very happy with his run and bird work as a 3 year old that was running in Booneville for his first time. Rip continues to progress and as his confidence builds he tends to increase his range and work rate. This is something I have come to really enjoy out of that bloodline of dogs.
