We still have some drakes available for anyone wanting to start their own flock. Outdoor space is a must, and pools if not a pond. Do not feed potatoes or bread to them or anything like that; feed them corn, veggies, pumpkins, etc. oh and watermelon. They love watermelon! They’re not approachable birds but they’re calm and beautiful. Included are Rouens, black Swedish and a blue Indian runner.
Two Side notes:
1)two of the Rouen drakes have angle wing but it’s painless.
2) there are only two black Swedish drakes. They are very close so they must go together.

This year we started keeping white embden geese for the very first time and we just love them. Yes they’re the loudest birds on the ranch but they’re great shepherds for the ducks and they’re just beautiful and fun to watch.

The Emden or Embden is a German breed of domestic goose. It is named for the town of Emden in north-westernmost Germany.[6][7][8][9][10]

I’m going to be real for a moment. Today was a rough one and it made me wonder if this whole animal rescue thing is really worth it. I know it’s only starting (it started this spring) but after looking at the budget and remembering how some people didn’t believe I could do it, it just really hit hard today. But as was praying about it (I’m a born again Christian) I heard God say in my spirit to not give up so easily; don’t rush into anything but be patient and carry on. This isn’t a pity party but running a rescue has its highs and lows and when all is said and done I really do enjoy it and I don’t want to give it up so easy.

Our son is a big lover of the chickens. One of them is super friendly and is our barnyard pet. I’ve enjoyed chickens more than I’ve ever had before.

I don’t normally ask this but I gotta get over myself and think about the animals. The Mainely Ducks Ranch is asking for donations- it doesn’t have to be money but it can be duck friendly food (lettuce, whole corn, cracked corn, any fruits without citrus, any kind of squash), hay, leaves or shavings for bedding, and any kind of enrichment. And anything discarded like fencing and posts is always welcome. It will all be appreciated and will help the rescue ranch to grow.

We have some Rouen ducks that are available for adoption. They must go to a place where they can freely move around and have plenty of exercise. A pond would be ideal but pools are a definite must. To say that ducks don’t need swimming water is moonshine. They’re WATERFOWL and will not be happy until they get it. Pm me for fees.
