This morning I rescued another set of ducks in Glenburn, one drake and three ducks, all pekins. I love doing this and I don’t care whether money is involved or not. It’s just something I love doing.

Ducks and geese are stupid things sometimes. We gave them the trailer for their coop but noooo they won’t go inside. I made them a ramp, the chickens will hop inside for food and the ducks would go in to lay but none will stay inside at night because of the geese. They REFUSE to step in. And because of that the rest won’t stay in. They have a mind link. So I’ve been throwing bedding hay under the trailer and collected discarded Christmas trees to inclose open spaces. Surprisingly they’re doing very wel, considering the extreme temperatures. The things one has to do for one’s poultry.

Today I had to put down Denise😔. She was not only crippled but she was very underweight and unresponsive to many things. The hardest part of being a farmer, homesteader and duck rescue is putting down an animal. Some of you may think I’m cruel to do it but when one tries to help an animal with multiple issues then the kindest thing you can do is end its suffering. Keeping a suffering animal alive for my own comfort and pleasure is cruelty. While she was here she was a good little girl and very pretty. I’m miss having her around already.

We’ve got a new cat for the barn. Can’t think of a proper name for her. She’s a very pretty black/orange tortoiseshell. Her previous owner(s) called her Edna Mode and the humane society christened her “Catristmas”. I think not, so who has any suggestions?
