Selfless animal lovers in our communities work tirelessly to match adoptable and sometimes discarded dogs to loving forever homes. One of those beautifully selfless people was Janet (Jan) DeCraene. Jan was the Founder & President of Cocker Spaniel Resources, Inc. (Nic of Time Cockers and Golden-Age Retirement).
After teaching for 32 years, Jan retired in 2003. Throughout her life Janās compassion and interest in the well-being of animals was apparent. After retiring, she pursued involvement in humane society work and served as Warden for the Hudson Animal Control, in Hudson, WI. She grew uniquely interested in the long-term welfare of dogs that were particularly difficult to adopt and it was out of this need that CSR was born.
Jan aspired to create an organization where cocker spaniels would be cared for regardless of their health conditions through placement into permanent homes, into sanctuaries and foster care programs. She believed the older, elderly, or disabled cocker spaniels were discarded by society and in response, she desired to build an organization whose mission would be to find ālife homesā for these otherwise unwanted cockers.
In 2006 that vision became a realty with the formation of CSR, a corporation fully licensed by Wisconsin and Minnesota to rescue dogs, but whose hands have also stretched beyond state lines to serve, rescue and support the efforts of similar organizations across the Country. CSR volunteers, foster families, supporters, friends and family provided a support system that believed in Jan and rallied to support her vision time and time again.
Janās remarkable vision, passion and courageous drive made CSR a reality, and by doing so countless Cockers have been saved from otherwise deplorable conditions and even death. By last count CSR has taken in, helped, transported, or organized to rescue over 800+ cocker spaniels and cocker mixes since its formation.
Though Jan passed away due to heart failure on June 6, 2017, her work has continued through the organization she started, and her passion and heart lives on in the lives of all those she touched. CSRās board members have been committed to continuing Janās vision and work. In January 2021, the last retirement cocker Sammy crossed the Rainbow Bridge to join Jan and all the other CSR cockers waiting for their families.
So It is with sad hearts that we are announcing the closure of CSR.
āHelping one dog may not change the whole world, but it could change the world for one dog.ā We are fur-ever grateful to our CSR friends and family for your friendship, stories and support over the last 15 years. Please consider changing any automatic donations or online donations to other rescues as there are always rescue animals in need.
