Milky hands are just too tempting
I tried to get a cute video of the fawns…apparently I should have washed my hands first after feeding them their bottles.
Eating is tricky!
Apparently eating food can be a very challenging skill…
So excited for food they’re climbing the walls…
I feed these little fellas all the time, and they still don’t appreciate my sense of humor!
The Walnut Test: Take 1
So before they are ready for release, squirrels need to be able to open an unshelled English walnut.
This is our spring babies’ first attempt to do so, and they all set to it with enthusiasm…though some are stumbling through the mechanics of this endeavor.
(I won’t name names…don’t want to make any of them self-conscious)
But presuming everyone stays on track, we should be ready for releases in the next few weeks!
Stephen
Though he’s just a baby field mouse, we’re still going to do all we can to give this little one the best shot possible—after all, a life is a life!
(His name is Stephen, and he’s been eating very well so far)
Woofy and Spirit
“You got some schmutz on your face…hold on, let me get that for you…”
Thanks for the veggies!
A big THANK YOU to the Nanticoke Conservation Club for donating a whole lot of veggies today!
Everyone—our young squirrels in particular—is loving them!
Peer pressure opossums
I feel so very peer pressured into refilling their food bowl…
Hey there…*wink*
Ummm…
How do you know if an opossum is trying to flirt…?
Fascinated by the camera!
We’re still learning new things each day…very interested in how cell phones work
Woofy’s pretty outfit
On chilly days like today, fawns get to wear cute little outfits to help keep them warm.
(Which are just our dogs’ hand-me-downs from when they were pups)
Baby bunny giving himself a bath
Baby bunny giving himself a bath, then looking very proud of how good a job he did!
Woofy
Fawn season has begun!
This little one came to us today, weighing just over 4 lbs.
Her name is Woofy.
Rest assured we will do our best to plump her up and make sure she grows up big and strong.
Bella’s Release
Bella, who came to us as a tiny baby at the end of last August, finally got to experience freedom yesterday!
She wasn’t old enough to be on her own when the cold weather hit last winter, so she got stuck hanging out with us for a while.
But now, all grown up and ready to meet the world, Bella finally got released into the wild where she belongs.
Best of luck out there, Bella—we’ll miss you!!
Blueberry meets apple
The early spring batch of baby squirrels are ready to move on up to trying fruits!
The first honors went to Blueberry, who (somewhat ironically) got to enjoy a small slice of apple.
Looking at the world for the first time
The baby bunnies’ eyes are starting to open…well, one of them at least so far.
Guess I’ll have to start dressing better for feedings now that they can see me—bunnies are notoriously judgy of fashion.
4 baby bunnies ready for their dinner
These 4 baby bunnies arrived today. Their eyes aren’t open yet, but they have a lot of energy, as you can see—even if they don’t know where they’re going yet.
Blueberry meets peas
The baby squirrels are starting to enjoy some veggies.
This is Blueberry munching away at some fresh peas.
Baby bunny having dinner
A quick, cute moment to brighten your day: a baby bunny having some dinner
Warrior’s flea bath
Poor little Warrior needed a flea bath when she came in.
While she was very tolerant, I don’t know that she exactly enjoyed the experience.
