Happy Halloween from all of us at the AVMA.

As a reminder, please be sure to keep your pets safe this season and follow these recommended tips from AVMA President Dr. Michael Bailey.

Halloween can be a scary time for animals, triggering a spike in emergency visits, AVMA President Dr. Michael Bailey warned pet owners on WTVR CBS 6 News.

"A lot of pets are very susceptible to noise, it's a noisy time of year," Dr. Bailey said. "You have new people coming to your door and the pets may not be familiar and they may get stressed by it."

He also advised keeping animals away from Halloween treats, as they can lead to toxic ingestions, intestinal blockages, and burns. Even items like glow sticks pose dangers. While the material inside isn't toxic, it can cause irritation if pets bite into them. https://bit.ly/3X4pEXj
