A day in rescue I thought would never happen. TAYLOR got ADOPTED!!!!!!! Taylor was rescued from a severe neglect case and was transferred to rescue where she spent a year before coming to our rescue where we did intensive socialization training for many many months. We at times came to the same conclusion the other rescue did as this pup isn’t adoptable. But Taylor showed us all that with hard work and dedication you can overcome any fear or challenge. Taylor has been adopted by a wonderful couple who is willing to give her the patience she needs to flourish. Thank you foster mom Faith for your continued work with this girl.

With the weather being so drastic lately. Rusty Bug is enjoying Montana weather in NC. Here is an update from his mama:

Had to share as snow has not fallen on the beaches/shores of NC (at least not 5 inches) since early 1900 and Rusty Bug was in his happy place! Enjoying the snow and we had zoomies! He loves the balls, football and frisbee!
Also really taking to doggie daycare now. I think he now gets that it’s a fun place and he still gets to come home to us.
Love this little guy so much!
Yesterday we tried working on our driveway. The ice is crazy thick…and it refreezes at night. Rusty is so good and loves being out in this! He just sits and watches, good foreman! Then we walked down to neighbors to help because they are older so we shoveled them out and Rusty hung out in the yard overseeing and then went inside and was loved on for an hour or so while we all had an end of day cocktail. He is the best and just loved by all! Which he deserves!
In the comments is Rusty Bug playing fetch with himself. Thank you to the community who rescued this boy and got him to us so he could find his perfect forever family. Thank you Kristin for loving him so much!

Does anyone remember Wiley who we had to trap in Six Mile??? He was abandoned and running scared for weeks. When we finally got him to rescue it took a long time, many months, to socialize this guy. We love getting updates on him. He is absolutely thriving with his mama and big dog brother.

I’ve never been stuck writing a pup’s bio before writing Daisy’s. I believe it is because I am overcome by grief and sadness when thinking of her past and what she experienced and overjoyed by her resilience and soft nature. Daisy is now searching for love. I will start off with the basics. Daisy is what we believe to be a 2–3-year-old Blue Heeler weighing 25lbs. She is a true Heeler in her personality as she is loyal to a fault to her one person and at times finds herself herding other dogs when excited, knowledge on the breed is important. Daisy has done well with all dogs; in fact, she would prefer to be placed with another doggy friend to play with and help guide her. Daisy was previously brought back to the shelter where she then was facing euthanasia due to possibly killing chickens. She currently shares a fenced run in the foster home with chickens and has not shown any interest. Daisy has done fine with dog savvy cats. Daisy also has done fine with children but given her timid nature, older respectful children would be best.
Now, let me now tell you how Daisy came into our care at rescue. Daisy’s prior ‘caregiver’ wrapped barbwire around her mouth and head so she could not eat and threw her out in a desolate area to starve and have what no doubt would be a slow painful death. Well, Daisy persevered and was trapped by volunteers and shelter staff. Daisy was completely shut down when she came to the shelter. She was quickly adopted out and it was believed that when Daisy was left unattended, she chased the chickens and was brought back to the shelter. Per the protocol she was put on the euthanasia list. That is when our rescue was contacted to pull Daisy, and we are so thankful. An amazing vet tech who helped take care of Daisy’s injuries drove her across stateliness to safety. Daisy continued to heal physically and emotionally in foster. Her new family needs to be patient with her as she is learning how to be a dog. She is learning that not everyone is going to hurt her. She now goes outside to potty; she will require a fenced yard as she does not potty while leashed. She loves her kennel and that is her safe spot. She likes her dens and will frequently sleep under the bed. She is her person’s shadow and will follow them everywhere. She is slow to warm up to strangers and requires time to adjust, but once she knows you her person, there is no personal space. So, a true heeler.
Daisy's person will need to be dedicated to her and patient. They will also need to understand that she will need continued basic training as it is clear she did not have any. What her new family also needs to know is that she is the sweetest, smartest, most lovely of dogs who is eager to start her second chance at life.
Daisy is spayed, UTD on vaccines, microchipped, and dewormed. Homeownership and fenced yard are preferred. This rescue will not adopt out to individuals with unaltered domestic pets.

❄️💙💙Feel Good Friday!!!💙💙❄️
Quincy spent over a year in rescue where she had three kittens. They found their forever homes and she sat patiently waiting… and waiting. Her perfect family finally came and we could not be more happy for this sweet girl. She is now affectionally referred to as Queen Quincy, quite fitting. If she isn’t in her family of 6 lap or rubbing against the family dog, she is found lounging in her kitty tower.

Who’s looking for the perfect watchdog and active partner?! Well, let us introduce you to LEGION. Legion first came to PPRS as a three-month-old puppy and was quickly adopted by a family friend. They had Legion in their home for over a year before they got pregnant and decided Legion was too much dog for them. They refused to follow training advice (basic training and exercise) from a local trainer which was devastating, and he was brought back to rescue. We failed Legion and we will not be doing this again or EVER! Now it is clear that this couple also failed Legion and did not properly expose him when he was a puppy or secure any training for him, so the rescue is playing catch up. But we can tell you Legion is doing amazing, and we are ready to find the most appropriate home for him as he deserves the best.
Legion is a year and a half old German Shepherd mix, weighing over 70lbs. Legion loves being outside and going on adventures. Legion would make a great running partner as he does not stop to smell the flowers and can go for miles if needed. Legion does best with other dogs with high energy play styles as he likes to play hard and is still learning dog cues. Legion is currently attending doggy daycare 2-3 times a week. Cats do not like Legion as he does not understand that they don’t want to play.
Legion is very smart and loves to learn. Legion knows his basic commands and is currently learning how to walk on a prong collar and is getting e-collar trained. Legion currently goes on multiple leashed walks a day. Legion loves to play fetch and chewing on bones or hard toys.
Legion is a great watch dog and is always alert to his surroundings, with his ears up. Legion is protective of his people and surroundings. He does require slow introductions to people as he will bark at strangers, and this is intimidating. Legion would do best in a home with older children due to his size. Legion loves to be with his people and will follow them anywhere and is often referred to as the shadow. Legion is also a self-sufficient dog and is not too needy and can be independent when needed. Legion knows the dog door and does well in his fenced yard. Legion does great in his kennel and considers this his safe spot. Legion also does well in the car and is continuing with car training as he does feel protective of this spot and will bark at strangers trying to protect his hoomans inside.
Legion needs an active family to keep him stimulated. His foster mom states he is an amazing dog with a ton of potential who is smart and eager to learn. He needs a strong leader to continue with training. His charm and strong personality does not lend to pushover ownership. Legion would do best as a watch dog on property since he is active and likes to be protective of his people and home. Knowledge of the breed and protective nature is important.
Legion is neutered, UTD on vaccines, microchipped, and dewormed. This rescue will not adopt out to individuals with unaltered domestic animals.

This is Trey! Trey is a 7-month-old, small; probably only reaching 30lbs, shepherd mix. Trey came from a severe neglect case and had to spend many weeks recouping and gaining weight before he could successfully be transferred to rescue. Trey is as loyal as they come. He insists on being right in between your legs; this might pose a tripping hazard. Trey also wins the award for having the cutest ears! Trey is still learning to be a dog and is just now starting his socialization journey. He at times will bark when unsure of new situations but is easily corrected and is catching on fast now that he is in a safe situation. He has done great around other dogs, has started socializing with cats and kids. Trey has started to become more independent at rescue and loves to play with other dogs at rescue and is curious about his surroundings. Trey is a goofy fun-loving boy ready to experience all that life has to offer. He is starting to come out of his shell, and it has been fun to watch. Since Trey is still a puppy with limited exposure to experiences and training, this will need to be continued upon adoption. He is starting to learn routine of going to the potty, is learning crate training, and what is appropriate in the home. He is starting to get desensitized to cars and leashes and so far, has done great. Trey is neutered, UTD on vaccines, dewormed, and microchipped. Homeownership and fenced yard are preferred. This rescue will not be adopted to individuals with unaltered domestic pets in the home.

A big thank you to our volunteer who took these pictures! 💕

ADOPTED!!
This is Trinket! Trinket is a 7-month-old, small; probably only reaching 30lbs, shepherd mix. Trinket came from a severe neglect case and had to spend many weeks recouping and gaining weight before she could successfully be transferred to rescue. Trinket is the runt of the litter and had to scrap for everything she got. She does fine with other dogs, but we think she would prefer to be an only dog as she is done competing with other pups for food and attention. Trinket is extremely affectionate! If her foster mom sits or lays down anywhere Trinket insist on laying on her. Trinket doesn’t believe in personal space, so her new family must love cuddling. Trinket enjoys being babied and snuggled with and will find any opportunity to land in your lap and snuggle under your chin. Trinket is still learning to be a dog and is just now starting her socialization journey. She at times will bark when unsure of new situations but is easily corrected and is catching on fast now that she is in a safe situation. She has started socializing with cats and kids. Since Trinket is still a puppy with limited exposure to experiences and training, this will need to be continued upon adoption. We are a very small rescue, stretching our resources to help the ones who need it most. We have one main home to do our intakes and care for our fosters where we do our rehabbing and socialization. We wanted to share our numbers with you from this past year as you helped us accomplish this. Either by liking our page, donating food, time, or money, adopting from us, or buying our homemade dog treats, Mutts Matter.
💙PPRS rescued 51 animals this year (one being recently returned to rescue from a prior adopter, this is extremely rare for us and we will talk in extent about this on a later date)
💜💜PPRS successfully adopted 39 animals this year to wonderful families! With 1 adoption currently pending.
One rescue got to be released back to the wild once he was healthy enough 🐇
One was humanely euthanized.
💕We still have 8 fabulous pups looking for their forever home! 💕
🎊Our goal this next year is to continue to grow with reliable dedicated fosters so we can help more animals in need. Our hope is to have a diverse intake center on the property by 2027. This will help our ability to rehab and take in emergency cases within our community. Your continued support and donations are everything to us.

Happy New Years! Everyone be safe and use common sense with ensuring your pets safety for tonight.
