Sadly, this grieving family lost their 2 year old rescue pup when she suffocated in a dog food bag on Thanksgiving Day. Erica McCarrens writes, “Lyanna was a rescue pup that was part Lab and maybe some Pit. She was the most wonderful friend. I let her into our fenced-in backyard. I started peeling potatoes and apples for Thanksgiving. I checked on her 5 minutes later and saw her motionless with a bag on her head. I knew then something horrible had happened. She had knocked over a trash can and found the bag. The dog food bag had the powdered dry meat you can sprinkle on kibble. It was a heavy zip lock type bag.
I tried CPR. I screamed for anyone to help but she was gone. This has been the worst experience of my life. I’m trying to find meaning, peace, and support. I am so happy to have found you. Thank you for your awareness campaign. I wish I had known sooner. 💔”
Lyanna’s story is a sad reminder that pet suffocation happens within minutes, even while you’re home. Please share!

As a young child I always had a special bond with all types of animals. I am a published author of three books and I speak about my love for animals. As a teen I felt like I would become a veterinarian or a midwife. I became the later catching babies. I retired from midwifery after 36 years. I still love 💕 babies and animals! I have cats and rabbits and a turtle 🐢. One book on Amazon you can find is The Chubby Bunny Woony. A book with bunnies 🐰 I feel like it is so important to have a caring pet sitter when you must leave. Hence the name comfort and joy.
