Wags and Waves is here to help! While you vacation, let your pets staycation in the comfort of their own home Hi- we're so glad you're here! My name is Sam, and I'm just like you- a regular mom who believes in supporting her community and living life to the fullest. If you're going to let me into your home- allow me to let you into mine:

I grew up in the Chicago suburbs in a household of four dog

s of all different sizes. As a child, I wanted to be a zookeeper, as animals have always been an infinite source of happiness for me. Instead, I chose a career path in veterinary technology. I moved to Kentucky and received my Bachelors of Science in Agriculture from Murray State University in 2015, where I studied both small and large animal medicine and husbandry. Following school, I moved even further south to Clarksville, Tennessee, where I received my state certification as a Licensed Veterinary Technician and worked in a top-rated animal hospital for 4 years. At one point, there were 3 dogs and four cats in my home! When it came time for the next chapter in life, a traveling job brought me to the Space Coast, and I instantly knew this was where I was meant to be. We have resided here for two years, during which I have maintained a full-time job with a local small business, developed multiple friendships within the community, and even coached local soccer for the kids. Currently, I am a partner, a mom, a dog-owner, a local server, a neighbor, a coach, and most importantly- a friend. I live in Indialantic with my partner, Dustin, and my 8 year old son, Jace, and our two dogs- a half Great Dane (Curri) and a pitbull (C**t).

Puppies are cute and all, but have you ever seen a senior dog just absolutely in love with life? 🩵🧡🐾 Allow me to introduce you to my own crew:

The black dog here is Curri- she just turned 11 and she's half Great Dane and half mountain cur. I've raised her since she was 8 weeks old, and she has lived with me in every house and every state of my adult life- she even traveled with me when we lived camper life for 9 months before falling in love with the Space Coast. She loves to go for rides in her truck and chew in her favorite bone she's had forever, and she is a HUGE bedhog. Thank god I have a king size bed just for her! She's older now, so I have to life her up every night, but its worth it for those snuggles.

The other little guy- that's C**t! C**t has only been in our life for a year now, but he's absolutely the best shelter dog we could have asked for. He's also 11 (at least according to the shelter that had him in and out for 8 years), but he gets his spurts of puppy energy all the time! He is the BIGGEST snugglebug and HATES the cold. His hobbies include sunbathing on the balcony, licking everything in sight, and playing hide and seek around the house. I'm beyond grateful we gave a chance and adopted a senior dog. You've never met a pup more grateful just to be loved. 🌹🐾

Meet Ace.

I just did for the first time one week ago. At our meet-and-greet, Dad told me that they've had a rough history of finding reliable sitters that Ace trusts, as he can be a little defensive of his home when mom and dad aren't around. There have been times that he wouldn't let someone in past the front gate, even. Other times he was standoffish and possibly nippy. This cuddlebug? Are you sure? He's so cute!

So- how do we make him the most comfortable? Body language and exposure therapy. Our first meeting was a Tuesday with Dad, and I came over every single day that week in different settings: Wednesday with mom, Thursday with no one home and walking in the door with all of them, and Friday walking in alone while mom and dad waited patiently in the car outside. At first, yes, he was weary. Confused as to where his parents went and unsure of what to expect. I offered treats he refused, I sat on the floor while he growled at the gate a little, and I let him have his space. No direct eye contact, don't come at the face, keep your voice calm as normal. Eventually, I removed the gate and sat on the couch and let him come to me. 4 minutes. 4 minutes was all it took for him to let me into his circle. We've been together all weekend and now he doesn't even bark when I come in. In fact, he follows me around until he can sit in my lap.

Patience, understanding, trust, and energy are all so important. Thanks for letting me into your circle, buddy. 🧡🐾

This review right here is exactly why I do this. As a single mom, I know how hard it can be to find reliable, AFFORDABLE care for my son, let alone my fur babies. Sometimes, we just need a little break and a favor from a friend. I love being able to be that person for my neighbors and becoming a part of their home. I love being able to be a resource and to make a difference when people need it most. Thanks, Anthony, for trusting me with such goofy, sweet pups. We had such a great time together over the holidays; and I hope you did too.

As we wrap up one year and take right off onto another, We wanted to take s moment to share some of our new families that we're so grateful to be a part of. Wags and Waves started late in the year, but we still manage to invite 16 new families into our circle, and each one has been filled with kisses and treats!

Thank you all so much for all of the support and trust. We absolutely love what we do, and being a partof an amazing community is priceless. HAPPY NEW YEAR 🐾
