A few shots of Ball python courtship, culminating in what I believe is our first confirmed lock. A lock is never a guaranteed ovulation but it’s a great sign for us that we are close to the goal from day 1 which was 2021 breeding season!

Looks like Makeda will be the first of our girls to reach breeding size. Major growth spurt over the last month and she just turned 2. Fingers crossed for some baby snakes in 2021!!

Introducing.....Drumroll Please 🥁 🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁

Ramses! We have a male! This is a big step for me, 13 months into the hobby now, getting my first future breeder male is another important milestone. Worked with Dr Ben Morrill of Reptile Genetic Services in Christiansburg, VA for this guy. He’s absolutely stunning. FedEx gave us a bit of a scare with an extra day on delivery because of Covid delays but he is here, looking fabulous and in great health. He’s a Leopard, Orange Dream, Piebald male ball python. I couldn’t be more ecstatic. Welcome to the fam, Ramses!

Update:
1. Happy Trails, Cleopatra! I did not plan on parting with any of my original snakes, but plans do change and I needed to adjust so I sent her to a new home in Wisconsin, she’s doing well there. I was a little sad but glad she went to a good home.

2. Speaking of plans....VERY exciting development coming our way, in transit as we speak actually. Tomorrow I will have more on this but we are taking another big step towards our goals here!

Yesterday was our 1 year mark since getting Ball Python #1, Cassie. I have so enjoyed delving more and more into this hobby since then and I CANNOT WAIT for all that is ahead. Some big things coming!

Neffy and Makeda have definitely crossed the 1,000 gram mark (just over 2 lbs)!! It will be time in a few months to start looking for a male. Just think, by this time in 2021 we could be working on some pairings and have some eggs!

Neffy fresh out of shed tonight looking great! Also clocked in at 885 grams (1.9 lbs)!! She has passed Cassie in size, now only trails Sheba. (Cassie has not been eating much this winter which has been a little frustrating but she is still otherwise healthy, just not growing)

Winter update: Everyone is in good health, it has been a little harder to maintain the right humidity for them with the dryer winter air, and feeding has been a bit inconsistent compared to summer when no one ever turned down a meal. Still, no major issues to report! Need to visit my rodent provider this week because we are out of rats! 🐀

Cassie freshly shed and looking gooood! Almost up to 900 grams now 😱
This is my first snake and when I got her I knew nothing about genetics, I didn’t even know what pastel or het pied meant I just liked her picture. For being a single gene animal she’s a great example of a pastel, I unknowingly picked pretty well! ❤
