Meet Roxy!

Roxy is a 8 month old Dapple Dachshund who is going through our obedience program. The ultimate goal for Roxy is to become a Medical Alert Service Dog for her owner who suffers from a chronic cardiac condition. Training to become a service dog takes about 2 years. Roxy has been with us for a few months now and we will continue to work until she is fully trained.

Roxy is a highly intelligent girl who picks up on obedience very quickly and is thriving in public settings. At 8 months old she is holding extended stays in public (Lowe’s in the pictures) and exhibiting near perfect leash walking with automatic stops.

It’s a Breeze Dog Training and Pet Care offers customizable training plans based on the owners wants and desires. We have a flat per session fee. I can teach you and your dog everything from the basics to advance obedience to service dog task training to behavioral modification. We also offer AKC Canine Good Citizen Certification.

Meet Kodak!

Kodak is a 5 month old Rottweiler who is undergoing our puppy training program which covers all basic obedience and targets any behavioral issues.

For younger puppies I usually recommend a session every two weeks as it gives their humans time to practice things learned at the previous session. Being consistent in practicing and holding your dog accountable, even at 5 months old, is crucial to their long term training success!

2 sessions in and Kodak is walking on a leash, jumping less on people, and has learned to sit and stay. We are also training his older Shih Tzu sister Lala and targeting her excessive barking.

Important Updates and Looking Forward to 2025…

Happy Beginning of Fall! Ish….

I know my updates have been few and far between. My schedule has been crazy between personal and work that I haven’t been in a good rhythm with posting. But now that I have had a few days to get my thoughts together I wanted to loop everyone in on some updates and things planned for the future.

1. After two months of trying out the Wednesday - Saturday trainings schedule, I am happy with the balance it has provided and it is here to stay. New Client Consultations will be on Tuesdays as well as the other training days. Exceptions will be made if I have to cancel a session or if I am out of town during training days. Walks and drop ins will still be 7 days a week at my discretion.

2. Speaking of out of town, I will be traveling Sept 20 - Sept 24. I will be working on the 25th but it will be a drop in/walk only day. I will also be traveling Oct 3 - Oct 7. I will be doing drop ins on the 3rd until early afternoon and the 8th will be regularly scheduled programming.

3. September 30th will be a stressful day for me as my old girl, Jenna, will be undergoing a major surgery to have a cancerous tumor removed. So if I am slow to respond to messages that day please be patient with me.

4. Once I am back from my trips I will be making a big effort to become more engaged in social media. I will be posting all new clients and training videos. If there is something specifically you would like to see please let me know!

5. The response to the socialization walks this year has been amazing. So many of you have gotten so much out of it that not only are they coming back in 2025 but I am doubling the amount of them and mixing up the locations! If you have location suggestions please shoot them my way! The schedule will be released in early 2025.

6. The October 2024 Socialization Walk has been moved to October 26th due to a personal obligation on the 19th.

7. In Spring of 2025 I will be hosting a AKC Canine Good Citizen Class with certification at the end. If you think you might be interested please let me know!

Attention Clients!

I have a few reminders I want to push out to everyone.

Starting this week, I am changing to a Wednesday - Saturday training session schedule. The exception to this will be new client consultations on Tuesdays or if I have to reschedule a session due to a personal issue.

Dog walks and drop ins will continue to be 7 days a week at my discretion with preference going to current clients. I only do drop in visits for certain areas so if you are a training client wanting drop in services, please confirm with me that I provide drop ins for your area.

And while Labor Day is still a few weeks away, my schedule is filling up for drop ins for that week so please let me know now if you will need services.

Finally, I will be out of town September 20 - 24. All services will be unavailable on those days. On the 25th I will have a limited schedule for drop in visits only. Please plan accordingly!

Happy Sunday!

When we took you in, some were doubting your adoptability. You had spent your entire life in foster care with little interest. We had the challenge of training through your quirks, getting you healthy, and ensuring you were adoptable.

We accepted the challenge. And I’m proud to say our mission has been completed after 3 months with us.

You were stressful at times and the best in others. You taught me some valuable lessons that have improved me as a trainer and you have left your mark on our house in more ways than one.

Fostering is one of the most fulfilling things I do. And I will never stop. Some are easier to let go of than others. Helping a dog who has never known a home of her own finally find one makes it all worth while. Thank you for waiting for her and being open to her quirks. You will soon see what we saw in her, a sweet, loving, goofy pibble who just wants to lay on the couch and go for a walk sometimes.

As always, thank you for trusting us with another creature and allowing us to do what we do.

Welcome home, Ausra. Over 2 years of waiting and you finally got a home of your own.

Attention Clients!

As a reminder, I will be on vacation starting July 27th through August 4th. The July socialization walk will still occur on the 27th but no other services will take place during that time frame. Services will resume on August 5th.

For individuals trying to start services, I will return your calls, emails, or texts once I return from vacation.

For existing clients, I will respond to messages as time allows.

My wife, our three dogs, and myself will be hiding away in a cabin on the east coast for a week and I can’t wait to enjoy some much needed family time.

Attention Clients!

Starting the week of August 11th, training sessions will be limited to Wednesday to Saturdays until further notice. The exception to this will be New Client Consultations on Tuesdays if the other days don’t work. Walks and Drop Ins will still be 7 days a week but will be scheduled on a first come first serve basis and at my discretion.

The change in scheduling is prompted by trying to create a better work life balance for myself and for my family. In order to be the best trainer and pet care expert for you, I have to start with making sure I’m well rested and get to enjoy the fruits of my labor.

I am absolutely humbled by the faith that has been shown to me to help train and care for a variety of animals in the greater Indianapolis area. Since October of 2023, the official launch of my business, I have trained over 60 different dogs and cared for over 100 different dogs and cats. While I have been training and caring for animals for over a decade, going solo and all in with It’s a Breeze was terrifying. However, I haven’t regretted my choice for a second as I have never been happier with my work.

Thank you to all of my clients who have helped grow this small business into something exceptional. I appreciate you all being open to learning from me. Your referrals and reviews mean the world to me. While I am trying to not get too ahead of myself, with the rate things are going I might need to add more staff in the next year which is mind blowing.

A special thank you is necessary to my wife Nicole. Your support is everything. You push me to be the best while also reminding me that I’m human and it’s ok to rest. You are such an integral part to the success of this business by supporting all of my crazy.

Meet Logan!

This GORGEOUS boy is our newest client to the Pet Care side of the business. Logan is getting 30 minute drop ins 3 times a day while his parents are off on a short trip. These drop ins include feeding and medications, outside time, play time, and of course some love and affection.

In addition, I check for packages, bring in mail, water indoor and outdoor plants, and other minor tasks that can be determined on a case by case basis.

Pricing varies based on number of creatures, length of visit, and location.

Meet Ausra!

Ausra is a young female pitt bull who I am currently fostering through Helping Paws Indy. She is undergoing intense training to increase her adoptability. Ausra has been with the rescue since she was a puppy and she is about 2 years old now.

Here is what we know about Ausra:
-Loves the car and car sniffs
-Is brilliantly crate trained and potty trained
-Would be fine as the only dog but can live with other dogs
-She would do best in a home with a calmer dog
-She walks really well on a leash and loves to walk
-Loves to snuggle
-Low energy dog
-Doesn’t know a strange human
-Would do best in a home with older kids as she doesn’t quite know her size
-Fully vaccinated and spayed
-She has a deformed back left foot but it doesn’t bother her or slow her down
-She is allergic to chicken (breaks out in hives) but is on a reasonably priced food that lasts a long time

If you are interested in Ausra please visit helpingpawsonline.com to complete an application. It’s a Breeze Dog Training & Pet Care is sponsoring her adoption fee, so all you need is an approved application and home check! She will be with me until she is adopted and we will continue her basic obedience and socialization until then! However I would love to get her into her forever home as this girl has been bounced around from foster home to foster home at no fault of her own.

The importance of environment training.

Training needs to happen outside of the home. If you take your dog some place and they act crazy or even scared it’s probably because you haven’t taken the time to do intentional training outside of the home or their neighborhood. Additionally switching up the environment provides new mental stimuli for your dog. Different smells, sights, and sounds are critical to draining mental energy in addition to the physical energy that will be drained during the training process.

Luna, a 11 month old pit bull (and a former foster dog of mine), has been going through what I call “sh*tty pitty” phase. The pit bull stubbornness combined with being a teenager has made for a rough few weeks for her humans. Luna, who has been in constant training since last September when she first came to me and since she was adopted, has conveniently “forgotten” all of her training and was frustrating her owners with her lack of obedience in and around the home.

I decided an environmental training session was in order to get Luna out of her comfort zone and away from her home turf. While Luna was initially resistant to any listening to any commands, which confirmed it was sh*tty pitty phase and not her home environment, we were eventually able to get her reconnected to her obedient self and back to basics. By utilizing the environment (benches, planter boxes, etc) we added a physical element to the training while holding Luna accountable to commands. By the end of the session Luna was reconnected back to her owner and acting like a different dog.

If you find yourself in a rut with training and/or your dog seems bored, go to a park or a different neighborhood. The more places you practice the more ingrained the training becomes. Variety is crucial for training and never be afraid to go back to basics.

As always, my side kick Willow was there to provide an example for Luna and to just be adorable.

Client Update: Winnie

Winnie, a three year old boxer and staffordshire terrier mix, suffers from fear based aggression related to humans and dogs. Since October, we have been working to build confidence in both her and her owner. Utilizing stores like Lowes helps immerse Winnie into the world and surrounding her with people and pets as Lowe’s is a dog friendly place.

When we started 3 months ago, Winnie couldn’t be within 50 yards of a dog and within 10 yards of a human without reacting. Now, she can maintain an extended down within a few feet of not just one, but three dogs. What you can’t see in the picture is two Lowes employees chatting us up about the dogs and stood within 5 yards of Winnie. When we first started doing public sessions, Winnie’s owner didn’t even feel comfortable handling in public her out of fear. Now, the only contact I have with Winnie is to give her treats and love as her owner is now confidently and assertively handling her through both good and bad moments.

Dogs like Winnie are trainable. They may never be social butterflies or the life of the party, but can be taught to peacefully coexist in the world. Additionally, it can be a slow process. This type of socialization and immersion training happens gradually to not overwhelm the dog or the handler. Thankfully Winnie’s owner has committed to her well being and is now taking charge of their relationship and providing the necessary guidance to work through her fears. Instead of avoiding any and all triggers, they are walking into the fire as a team.

Meet Trooper!

Trooper is a 2 1/2 year old male German Shepherd. His owner got him as a young pup from a breeder.

Trooper has developed fear based aggression for humans and dogs as a result of lack of socialization. Trooper has only ever been too his home and the vet and a few local parks. Additionally, his owner is his whole world and feels the need to protect him. Trooper’s owner came to me to get the reactivity under control. During our initial consultation I diagnosed Trooper as not a pure aggressive case but with fear based aggression. When talking to his owner I discovered his limited exposure to the world and never being taught the proper way to greet new dogs and people.

Today was our second session and we met at our local Lowe’s. We kept his muzzle on as a safety precaution due it being his first ever trip to a store of any kind. The first thirty minutes was spent acclimating Trooper to the store - he showed no human aggression. Being overwhelmed with stimuli caused him to not care about humans. He was curious, but no aggression.

The last thirty minutes I used my personal dog Noir to amp up the situation as he has bigger issues with dogs. Noir is a dominant male that I knew would trigger Trooper’s reactivity. While there were a few tense moments, both boys did amazing they were able to walk side by side with no issues at the end.

Trooper’s own has been given the homework of opening up Trooper’s world in small doses. We plan to circle back after the holidays and continue to work on expanding his world.
