Raising a puppy feels like having a tiny, furry tornado with teeth. đŸŒ€đŸŸ

One minute they’re peacefully napping, and the next they’re zooming around the house with a stolen sock, gnawing on chair legs, or having an accident two feet from the potty pad. It’s exhausting, overwhelming, and sometimes makes you wonder, “Did I make a mistake?”

You’re not alone. Every puppy parent has felt that way—yes, even the experienced ones.

👍But here’s the good news: it gets easier.
With time, patience, and consistent, positive training, the chaos starts to shift. That tornado settles into a routine. Those sharp little teeth learn what’s okay to chew. And that overwhelming feeling? It turns into pride as you watch your puppy grow into a confident, well-behaved dog.

So take a deep breath. You’ve got this. If you need a little guidance along the way, I’m here to help.

Meet Henry.

Meeting new people used to be really tough for him. It felt overwhelming, confusing, and a little scary. So, how did we help Henry feel more at ease?

Through fear-free communication, consistent routines, and teaching alternative behaviors, Henry learned how to handle these situations with confidence.

Before training, Henry’s thoughts might’ve been:
đŸ«Ł “Who are you? What’s going to happen? What should I do? I really wish you’d leave.”

Now, after working together, Henry feels:
🙂 “Oh, a new person! I know what to do. I can help myself feel calm, and my people are here to support me.”

It’s not about ‘fixing’ dogs like Henry—it’s about giving them the tools to feel safe and confident in a world that can sometimes feel overwhelming.

Let me help you and your dog do the same!

Teething puppies chew everything—it’s not personal. đŸŠ·

Those little shark teeth aren’t out to ruin your furniture—they’re just trying to soothe sore gums. Chewing is a natural (and necessary) part of puppy development.

🩮 Quick Tip: Keep a variety of safe chew toys handy. If your puppy grabs something they shouldn’t, calmly swap it out for an appropriate toy. No need to scold—just redirect and move on.

✹ Bonus Tip: Try freezing a damp washcloth or a rubber toy filled with frozen treats to help numb those achy gums.

And don’t forget to praise the heck out of good choices. Positive reinforcement teaches your pup, “Chewing this? Good idea. Chewing the couch? Not so much.”

When dogs feel safe, they learn faster.

đŸ€”Think about the last time you had to learn something new—maybe driving for the first time or speaking in front of a crowd. Was it easier when you felt calm and supported? That’s exactly how it works for dogs.

Fear-free training isn’t just about handing out treats (though treats definitely help!). It’s about creating an environment where your dog feels confident enough to try, even if they don’t get it right the first time.

When a dog feels safe:
đŸŸ They’re more curious and willing to explore.
đŸŸ They recover from mistakes quicker because they’re not afraid of being scolded.
đŸŸ They build positive associations with new experiences, reducing FAS in the future.

It’s not about controlling your dog—it’s about guiding them, setting them up for success, and celebrating progress, no matter how small.

Because when learning feels good, growth comes naturally. ❀

đŸ—Łïž Training Myth Buster:
MYTH: ‘My dog’s too old to learn.’
TRUTH: Dogs of ALL ages can learn new skills. It’s never too late to start. ✅

Whether you’ve got a bouncy puppy or a senior with a few gray whiskers, dogs are lifelong learners. In fact, older dogs often catch on quickly because they’ve had more life experience to build on.

đŸ€“Pete (who is 9 years old) and I are training new things every week on my Patreon page! 10-minute training sessions focused on life skills for dogs of all ages. Short, effective, and easy to fit into your busy day.

đŸŸ Ready to show your dog they’re never ‘too old’ to learn?

✅ What your dog is trying to tell you
✅ How to respond without escalating the situation

Agility isn’t just about speed. 🐕‍đŸŠș✹

Sure, the jumps, tunnels, and weave poles look exciting (and they are!), but agility is so much more than a fast-paced obstacle course. It’s about:
đŸ€ Teamwork: You and your dog learning to communicate without words.
🎯 Focus: Helping your dog stay engaged, even with distractions.
đŸ’Ș Confidence: Watching your dog’s self-assurance grow with every successful run.

And the best part? It’s fun. Like, really fun. For both of you.

You don’t need a fancy setup to get started. I’ve got a DIY Agility Course designed to be easy, affordable, and perfect for at-home practice—whether you’ve got a spacious yard or just a little open space.

Puppyhood feels long when you’re sleep-deprived, but short when you look back.

😮The endless potty breaks, the sharp little teeth, the late-night zoomies—it can feel overwhelming, like it’s never going to end. You’re running on caffeine and patience (and sometimes, not much of either).

But here’s the thing: this stage is temporary. The habits you build now—like teaching your puppy to settle, walk politely, or feel safe when alone—will last long after the puppy breath fades.

It’s not about having perfect training sessions every day. It’s about the small, consistent moments:
✹ Rewarding calm behavior.
✹ Setting boundaries with love.
✹ Helping your pup feel safe in a big, new world.

One day, you’ll look at your grown dog, confident and well-adjusted, and realize—those exhausting days mattered. You were building more than skills. You were building trust.

So take a breath, celebrate the little wins, and know that future-you (and future-dog) will be so grateful for the work you’re doing right now. ❀
