An illegal breeding operation has been going on in Indore, West Virginia (unincorporated Clay County).
Many local animal lovers have been reporting the inhumane conditions these dogs have been living in, to no avail. WV laws put animal welfare responsibilities into the hands of each county's Sheriff.
Please be so kind as to watch the video until the end, as there are specific actions that you can take to help raise awareness for this tragic situation.
The breeder keeps her dogs outdoors, day and night. In rusted out wire crates, up to three dogs per small crate. (an airline would not even allow dogs to travel in such cramped conditions)
There is no access to water at all times. It is filthy dirty, the stench is unbelievable per first hand witness accounts. (and dogs have a super strong sense of smell, they must be in misery living in the stink)
The breeder rotates the dogs out on a chain attached to a stake, with only a plastic crate to go into to get out of the snow or rain (this is not warm enough for winter).
The dogs are dirty, have dreadlocks of matted hair. It is doubtful that they are seeing a vet for annual wellness exams, getting heartworm tested annually, getting monthly heartworm prevention, etc.
The breeder is running an all cash business, in order to continue to collect government checks for disability, welfare, food stamps.
She has between eleven and twenty dogs (per the Sheriff).
Local animal lovers are heartbroken that the Sheriff will not enfore the animal welfare laws. They live in a small town and the Sheriff has so much power to turn a blind eye and allow laws to be broken.
In this particular situation, the Sheriff and his wife already know the breeder because they own a Feed Store that she has been buying all of her dog food from for the last seven years.
The Sheriff has made a public statement with multiple lies. He claims that the breeder is legit, has a license, has fixed the violations she was making.
However, local animal welfare advocates have continued to keep videos and photos to document the evidence that nothing has changed, the animals contine to be kept in inhumane living conditions.
Once locals began to make the documentation of the abuse on social media, the Sheriff has deleted his Facebook post and is no longer commenting. If anyone calls the Sheriff, they are told that no laws are being broken.
The Sheriff went so far as to vouch for the breeder and helped to get her approved for a kennel permit in January.
This is not only morally wrong, this is an example of an ethics violation on the part of the Sheriff.
Tips for how you can help to raise the profile of this situation of incredible animal abuse and suffering, are at the end of the video.
Please share this far and wide.
These poor dogs are counting on US to speak up for them and their suffering!
