My Grandma is the best Groomer ever. She has been doing it for 33 years. Her name is Maddy LaRocca. She works with Nichole. Nichole washes the dogs and cuts their nails. The dogs are cut. Around the holidays she is very busy. She makes them look good for their owners and the owner’s guests. She always watches dogs too, while the people went on vacations. Sometimes I even help. I love to help her. It is so much fun. One day I want to be a professional Groomer. It would be fun. I would work everyday but Sunday like my Grandma. This is why my Grandma inspires me”
“When I’m an Adult!
When I grow up, I want to be a Groomer. I want to be a Groomer because I love animals. Being a Groomer is so much fun, you get to see a lot of dogs and you get to make them pretty. To get to be a Groomer I will have to go to a good College. Then I will have to go to Grooming school. First I will have to learn to bathe them. Next I will have to learn to cut their nails. Last I will learn to cut their hair. The rest of the stuff like putting in a bow, vacuuming, and fluffing them out, you learn by yourself. My Grandma is a Groomer and I want to be just like her. She is really good. She also gets a lot of money. The really good thing is you meet new people and new dogs. That is what I want to be when I grow up. THE END”

I wrote both of these excerpts when I was only 9-years-old and they still hold so much truth. My Grandma was truly an inspiration and was so well known throughout the East Islip Community. She shared her services for nearly 40 years before she passed away in 2015. Her loss has left a void in the hearts of many, but is the reason for my motivation everyday. My goal is to continue her legacy using everything she ever taught me about running a successful business and I plan to pick up right where she left off.
I love you, Grandma. Thank you for instilling in me so many of your great qualities.
Love always,
Katie
