I've got a lovely 3yo available (Obie)!! Perfect, all-around gorgeous clydesdale x TB 16.2h gelding... Your perfectly started youngster to take any direction. Foxhunter on a budget? Dressage? Eventing or H/J... Obie is your guy. This guy is EASY! W/T/C, including cavaletti. Perfect mix of athleticism and quiet demeanor. Lovely natural rhythm and tempo to his gates. Goes on trail alone or with others... relaxed and brave. Easily goes through water, over branches, across ditches, etc... he has had a lot of exposure as a young horse! He even has been ridden around teams of working Amish horses in the fields without any issues! Excellent barn manners, including tying, bathing, grooming, trailering, etc. Golden retriever type personality. Loves people and will run to the gate when called. Happy and eager personality. Strong bone and build but light and lovely to the aids. Started very correctly, as he had a light start at 2 years old and then has been in regular professional training as a 3 year old. Responsive off the leg when asked, responsive to the seat, quiet and balanced in the transitions, light in the mouth. NOT pushed to go artificially round from the hand at this point in his training. While eagerly going over small xrails, jumping has not been a focus yet given his age. He will likely be a keen and lovely jumper in the future. Very correct training so far and a truly great young horse for any career direction. Don't miss out on this very special horse! Send me a DM for more info :)

For those in/near Ithaca: An incredible learning opportunity coming up with high performance groom and author, Cat Hill! I recommend attending if you can.

⭐ In fact, I learned great new things from her book (even after my own 5-star grooming experience) and I often buy her book for students as gifts.

My article for the The Plaid Horse was published this week! "5 Myths About Going Pro" for our future professional riders/trainers out there. I think it's so important for our industry to take a fresh look at what being a "professional" means, especially valuing the contributions of our grassroots pros. Let me know your thoughts/experiences in the comments!

By Emily Urban It’s time for a fresh take on what being a professional rider or trainer means. Income, life balance and more! Let’s bust these 5 myths.  Myth 1- You have to ride at the highest levels of your sport to go pro.  False, we need prepared, passionate trainers at all levels to suppor...

I'm beyond thrilled to have been selected for this young professionals award! Can't wait to take what I learn riding/training wise from Laura Ashley Dressage and bring it back to my students and take all the business insight and training that I will gain from Michelle LaBarre to grow my business and support other upcoming professionals in The Rising Equestrian Pro! Thank you

Unmounted lesson with Finger Lakes Pony Club... What do you think the topic was??

TACK CLEANING... every detail counts.

After riding and grooming for a lot of top riders in the US and Europe, I learned that everyone has a slightly different tack cleaning routine. But the main tack away?...

Top level turnout (including clean, safe tack) matters! 🦸‍♀️

Thank you Colleen at Healing Rein Farm for hosting!

I ❤ my horses/teaching/training AND I ❤ my science... I love being a professional in both these areas (Btw, let me know if you want to chat about strategies on how I balance it all... I'm constantly trying to improve this).

🌾🌱🌍 So what do I do related to my full-time science stuff? I am in my 3rd year as a PhD student researcher at Cornell. I use big data sets and satellite data to understand/quantify agriculture landscapes anywhere on the globe. Enjoy these pictures from my work in Bihar, India... as well as my work in Rwanda from a few years ago.

While balance and time management can get tricky, I love the challenges and rewards of both professions. Also, I enjoy both my horse and science communities... keeps life and conversations inspiring and allows me to "zoom out" on the big life picture when things get frustrating/challenging in one or the other.

Baby 👶coming soon (Thanksgiving week)! I wanted to snap a quick pregnant instructor photo before baby makes an arrival. Plus, a pretty picture at Beebe Lake on Cornell's campus.

Grateful for all the students (and parents/partners) that help me move jumps and are open to me teaching from my stool in the center of the ring (instead of running around beside them) 🤣

Huge congratulations to the Shipe family for the start of a lovely partnership! I'm so excited to have Lance back under my eye here in Ithaca as he shows yet another young rider ropes.

I fell in love with this horse the moment I sat on him. At the time, he was being quite a challenge for his current rider and seemed to have lost most/all confidence XC entirely. After restarting him up through the levels, he was eventually confident at prelim+ and also became my upper level Pony club star. In 2014, I sold him to .. a little girl (and still current owner) who he gave his whole heart to and jumped the sky for. Kelsey continues to pass the love forward as Lance continues to give his all to other young riders (but he doesn't make it easy for them!).

Enjoy some photos of his lucky riders. Thank you to for always looking out for our Lance as well!

What an incredible community effort to host Finger Lakes Pony Club's first show at Asbury Equestrian Center! Just awesome to see how the whole horse (and non-horse) community chipped in to make this event happen.

Just realized that I didn't do a great job of documenting the show 📷📸... all hands were on deck and I was grateful to help out as ring crew at times, crowd control at other times, and coaching in between.

🗓 Mark your calendars for round 2 on October 24th!

Thank you to for another wonderful local showing opportunity for our students last weekend! So great to have this friendly, well-organized venue right in our backyard!

Genevieve had a great outing with Poppet and Freddy... taking home Grand Champion, Reserve, and High Point Rider! But the greatest thing was see her transformation with Poppet from the beginning of the season 🤗 It's the journey and the improvement that has me glowing as a trainer.

Come join us all this Sunday for another great local show with Finger Lakes Pony Club at Asbury Equestrian Center!

"Those who dare to teach must never cease to learn."

Why? Because learning is tough, learning is sometimes ugly, even making us feel vulnerable. A good TEACHER must always have empathy for their students as they embark in the learning process.
