We want to thank our clients for another amazing year of helping families and their dogs. We appreciate your support and for always believing in the work that we do to.

This year, Dash left our team to cross the Rainbow Bridge. He can never be replaced, but we are certain he approves of our newest addition, Chief. Chief is learning how to help fearful and anxious dogs find calm and peace, and that is exactly what Dash would want.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all! May 2026 be filled with good health and happy hearts.

It may not look appetizing, but this isn’t about aesthetics, it’s about nutrition.

My dogs’ bowls are built for health, function, balance, and performance.

1. Premium dog food: Provides a complete nutritional foundation with balanced vitamins, minerals, and amino acids so nothing is missing from the diet. It keeps meals consistent while supporting overall health.

2. Raw beef: High-quality protein that supports lean muscle, strength, and energy, along with iron and B vitamins for overall vitality.

3. Sardines: Packed with omega-3 fatty acids to support joint health, skin and coat quality, brain function, and inflammation control.

4. Raw chicken wings: A natural source of calcium and phosphorus for strong bones and dental health. Raw chicken bones do not splinter like cooked bones. Chewing raw wings also helps naturally clean teeth and supports healthy digestion

THIS IS FUNCTIONAL NUTRITION. What goes into the bowl matters just as much as the training that follows.

It’s truth time!!!

Your Dog Isn’t the Problem. You Are.

Most people don’t want to hear that.
But if you’re dealing with pulling, barking, jumping, or a dog that “won’t listen,” it’s time for the truth:

There are no dog issues. Only handler issues.

Dogs don’t wake up choosing chaos. They learn it.
If a behavior is happening, it’s because the dog was taught—intentionally or not—that it works.

And yes, this includes adopted dogs.
If your dog came with “issues,” those behaviors were created by the previous handler. Not by the dog.
The dog simply learned the wrong lessons from the wrong person.

So here’s the question:
Are you ready to become the right person?

Because the moment you change how you lead, communicate, and follow through, your dog changes too.
Not eventually—immediately.

If you want a better-behaved dog, start by becoming a better handler.
And if you don’t know where to start, that’s exactly what we teach at Bullys Behaving Dog Training.

Holidays are coming up quick. People are celebrating with family and friends with parties and get togethers. Dogs and their owners /friends combined with drinking alcohol doesn’t mix!! Please keep this in mind when celebrating!!

Drinking alcohol and spending time with your dog just does not mix, and a lot of people don’t realize how dangerous it can actually be. When you have been drinking, everything about you changes your body language, the way you talk, how steady you are, all of it and your dog notices every little thing. What feels like you just being silly can actually confuse your dog or even scare them, which can make them anxious or defensive. Plus, when you are drinking, your reaction time is slower, so it is easy to accidentally step on your dog, fall on them, pull too hard during play, or miss the signs that they are uncomfortable or done. Dogs rarely react for no reason, but it is hard to see their warning signs when you are not thinking clearly. People also tend to play rougher or allow behavior they normally would not when they are drinking, and that can create a really unsafe situation. Even the sweetest dog can react badly if they get startled or confused. And if you are having a party or drinking at home with friends, it is honestly best to put your dogs away in a quiet room or safe space so they do not get overwhelmed or caught up in all the chaos. Your dog depends on you to stay aware, so saving playtime for when you are sober and making sure they have a safe spot during gatherings is the easiest way to keep everyone safe and happy.

Desensitization Over Sit: Why Socialization Matters More Than Obedience for Puppies and Adult dogs

When you bring home a new dog, especially a puppy, it is tempting to focus on obedience training right away. Commands like sit, stay, and come feel essential, but the truth is that no one ever gave up a dog because it did not sit perfectly. Most dogs are surrendered because they are fearful, reactive, anxious, or unable to handle the world around them. That is why desensitization and puppy socialization are far more important than perfect obedience in the early months of training.

The Importance of Desensitization and Socialization

Desensitization training means gently exposing your puppy to new sights, sounds, people, and places in a calm and positive way. This helps them learn that the world is safe and predictable. A puppy who becomes comfortable with everyday things like the vacuum cleaner, delivery people, or traffic noise will grow into a confident and well balanced adult dog. Early socialization teaches your dog how to adapt to new environments and experiences without fear or reactivity.

Why Obedience Should Come Later

A dog who can handle the unexpected does not need constant commands. They naturally make better choices because they are calm and confident, not anxious or reactive. Obedience training can always be added later, but emotional stability and trust must come first. Teaching a puppy to sit has value, but it will not help much if they panic every time a stranger walks by or a door slams. Early social experiences shape your dog’s brain and influence how they respond to the world for the rest of their life.

Building a Calm, Confident Dog

A calm and adaptable dog is a joy to live with and welcome almost anywhere. Desensitization and socialization are not flashy forms of training, and you will not get as many brag worthy moments as you would teaching tricks, but they are the invisible foundation of good behavior. By helping your puppy feel safe and secure in different situations, you are preventing future behavior problems before they start.

Some of the world’s most well behaved dogs live in NYC and that is because of two things. One people must walk there dogs because they don’t have yards. Two, NYC has the most distractions then any other city on earth and the desensitization that goes on living there is unmatched.

So yes, teach your dog to sit, but first, teach them that the world is a safe and wonderful place to be. The lessons learned through proper socialization and desensitization will outlast every obedience cue they ever learn.

With My Experience At Rescue Ridge, I knew I could make a difference...

I quickly became a volunteer, watching and listening…to proud dog owners who returned just to say “thanks again,” “our family is now complete,” “we don’t remember what life was like before this dog,” and most impressively, “are you sure our dog really had all those issues?” Yes they did!

I watched some of the most unfriendly, uncontrollable, ferocious dogs of all sizes and breeds become transformed, and ready to be adopted within a matter of weeks. I knew that being part of this process was my calling.

There’s been no clearer message in my life than the one that brings me this opportunity to continue saving dogs’ lives and teaching owners how to improve the bond they have with their companions.
