‼️🐾 Preparing a pet for a hurricane requires thoughtful planning to ensure their safety & well-being. 🐾‼️

Here’s a step-by-step guide:

1. Create a Pet Emergency Kit:
•Food & Water: Pack at least 1 week supply of pet food & bottled water. Store it in waterproof containers.
•Medications: Include any meds your pet needs, with extra doses in case you can’t access a pharmacy.
•Leash, Harness, &Carrier: Make sure you have a sturdy leash or harness, & a secure carrier or crate to keep your pet safe.
•Waste Bags/Litter: For dogs, waste bags; for cats, have a small portable litter box & litter.
•Comfort Items: A blanket, toys, or any item that can help reduce your pet’s stress.

2. Identification & Documentation:
•ID Tags: Ensure your pet’s collar has up-to-date contact information.
•Microchip: If your pet is microchipped, confirm that the contact information is current.
•Documents: Bring copies of your pet’s vaccination records, medical history, & papers in a waterproof bag.

3. Shelter Planning:
•Find Pet-Friendly Shelters: Many emergency shelters don’t allow pets, so locate pet-friendly shelters, hotels, or boarding facilities ahead of time.
•Stay with Friends/Family: If you have a friend or relative in a safe zone, ask if you can stay with them & bring your pet.
•Veterinary Clinics: Some clinics & boarding facilities may offer temporary care during emergencies.

4. Prepare Your Home:
• Safe Space: If you are riding out the storm at home, designate a safe room for your pet away from windows (e.g., a bathroom or interior room).
•Supplies Accessible: Ensure pet supplies like food, water, & bedding are easily accessible.
•Calming Measures: Use a calming product like pheromone sprays or treats to keep your pet relaxed.

5. Evacuation Planning:
•Practice Crate Training: If your pet is not used to being in a crate or carrier, start practicing so they are comfortable if evacuation is needed.
•Know Evacuation Routes: Plan your route ahead of time & be sure to account for stops where pets are welcome.

6. Monitor Behavior:
•Pets can sense severe weather, which may cause them stress or anxiety. Watch for signs of nervousness (panting, hiding, pacing). If necessary ask your vet about anxiety meds or calming aids.

By staying organized and proactive, you’ll increase the chances of keeping your pet safe & calm during a hurricane.

✨ Client Spotlight! ✨

Everyone knows Cheesy & Sparky are some of the coolest cats around but their mom, Tracy, is pretty cool herself! Tracy is a photographer for PGA & had an amazing opportunity to travel to Paris to shoot Golf ⛳️ at the Olympics. Talk about a dream!

During the 3 weeks Tracy was away from home our team made sure Cheesy & Sparky received all the snuggles & care including daily feedings as well as litter box maintenance.
🐈💙🐈‍⬛

We had the best time hanging out with our furriends while giving Tracy peace of mind during her travels.

Getting some Olympic merch is so cool too! ❤️

Our new furriend, Bennie, would like to wish you all a happy Thursday! Although Bennie is the new pup on the block, his family has been using Sapphire & Co. for many years! Everyone remember the sweet Boxer, Tori? Unfortunately Tori is no longer here with us but she will always be part of our family. ❤️ We miss her terribly but are so excited to love on Bennie and see him a few days a week while his pawrents work.
